The business of certain routes? Have you ever wondered why certain routes are busier than others?

I was thinking about the London bus route 18 as I saw a rail replacement bus this morning and thought of the bus route 718. The 18 mirrors the Lioness Line and the North Western part Bakerloo Line from Wembley Central. The Bakerloo Line isn't known to be busy and the Lioness Line seems a bit...

What do you think of this style of ticketing system

I think it reminds me of Amazon fresh but on a wide scale. I guess it’s much more efficient at managing a lot of passengers quicker if the steam was to work optimally and the technology used was advanced and able to deal with a lot of passengers. I know a main argument against it is that it...

If you were to redesign Euston tube station what changes would you make

I use the Victoria Line to Euston on my way home from work. I have used it on mornings occasionally but usually don't. I find when I use it on mornings it's congested as it's rush hour I guess and then I'm transfering from a commuter train so I guess that makes the transfer even more congested...

Is it the track that causes the train to bounce out make a rhythm

I notice in this contrast video I watched a few days ago in the 90s clips the trains seemed to bounce more compared to 2010 and 2024 clips. The d stock also bounced more louder than the 313 noticeably. But even in memory, I think the 72ts use to bounce more in the late 90s than now. I remember...

Why are the seats numbered on the class 350/1/2?

I just observed this. I’m not sure if they are numbered in the /3 variances with the unrefurbed interiors. I don’t think the 730/2 have numbered seats although I haven’t really observed this.

With microplastics being a concern, can you imagine alternative materials to build vehicles with

https://www.unep.org/news-and-stories/story/everything-you-should-know-about-microplastics Microplastics apparently seem bad for us. I don’t know if the problem is over or under exaggerated though. I’m not sure if the solution is to invent plastics that are more environmentally friendly and...

Do you think the Hayes extension is a good idea or should Bakerloo Line only go to Lewisham

I was just thinking although Bakerloo line is short I also think it’s probably a slower line than other lines like Jubilee line with stations maybe being closer distance on average, I may be wrong, so I imagine it going to Hayes might make the line a bit overly long, not really, but as in full...

Does anyone know how tfl ticket zones were decided?

I know the met Line zones go high and it goes far from London but I find it questionable how the Central only goes to Zone 6 despite also going a bit out of London. It seem like the more recent stations added to fare zones are also likely to be beyond zone 6 if the are outer London but not near...

1972 tube stock. How rare is a train without a middle driving cab.

I think it’s my first time seeing one and I regularly use the Bakerloo line. Train 3299

Continuous compressor sound (i think) on 1972 stock. Why?

So today I got a Bakerloo Line for a few stops and the compressor sound was on the entire time. Car number 4352 (I think) ,may have misread it as I looked quickly at it as I was leaving the station, it also had a big blue spot next to the car number unlike other carriages. The other day on an...

What causes the sound at 6:08

I notice this sound on the 72 stock as well. I may be mistaken but I don’t think I notice it on modern stock. Also the 72 stock creates a pop sound sometimes I think. I may be mistaken because it sounds like maybe a track thing more than a motor thing.

Why does the door close button seem rarer on new trains

I don’t use a lot of different train stock so may be wrong but then also it seems to be a thing. For example, I’m not sure, but I don’t think the class 710, has the proper close button that just closes doors from what I’ve heard. I’ve seen comments that the lower button, by the doors, doesn’t...

How can vegetation in between tracks affect trains

I just got a train from Kenton and noticed the tracks for Lioness and Bakerloo Lines have vegetation on them, in between and next to the rails, however for the WCML which runs beside the Bakerloo and Lioness Lines the tracks were clear of any vegetation. So it made me wonder.

Why aren't two plus lifts, for each floor, considered when making a stations wheelchair accessible

I watched this video a few weeks ago and I remember the woman stating that she couldn't use some stations because the lift was out of order. It made me just wonder with multiple lifts on each floor, a lift being out of order wouldn't stop someone with a wheelchair from using the station.

Why are the ticket barriers for wheelchairs/prams slower than the regular ones

For example when someone passes if I don’t tap quick the light will go red for some seconds and then back to orange.

Why do certain sections of tube tunnels have lights on?

I know the obvious is to maybe make tube drivers aware of something but what types of things. I don't use the Lizz Line much but does it also have lighted sections of its tunnels.

Is it a practical solution to build a second line that operates like Victoria Line? What would be the issues? How might it help in London?

I was just thinking of this, even maybe longer although maybe not overly long. Perhaps the stations will be even more spaced out in Central London than the current Victoria Line to make it a faster line. The main issue I see with this idea is that the core stations would have to become...

Around what year did metal escalators start being used? Was the change fast or slow?

I was just watching this and it made me curious.

Lower body Air vents/grill on 95/6 and 09 stock? Why are they needed?

I notice the 92 and prior stock didn’t have these lower body grill. Is it to do with the ac motors? I looked at the 2024 stock and whilst the lower grills didn’t seem to like the same as the other modern deep tube stock they seem to be big removable panels on the bogied cars. I would guess...
