    It's all happening at Gravesend

It's all happening at Gravesend Station at the moment.... Today (1st Dec 2016) the new Cycle Hub is being opened. Reinforcement work on the tunnel at the eastern end of the station is almost complete. Railway Place is about to be resurfaced. The whole station is currently in the centre...

    High Speed Upgrade oddities

Gravesend seems to be penalised by having the highest priced HS Upgrade ticket prices which is weird since it's closer to London than stations with cheaper Upgrades. Any reason why I couldn't use a Strood HS Upgrade from Gravesend? Maidstone West is cheaper still, whilst a Birchington HUC...

28 day rule for collecting a season ticket refund?

My partner lost her monthly season with a week remaining on it - her first time of doing so. She was alighting at Station X when she discovered the loss, rather than her normal "home" Station Y. Staff at Station X gave her a lost ticket/refund form and she submitted it back to Station X within...

Southeastern employee apologises for their crappy ticket barriers

As my ticket was once again rejected by Southeastern's HS1 ticket barriers at St Pancras yesterday morning, I decided to enquire why.... "Is my ticket valid?" "Yes!" "So why do your ticket barriers reject it?" "I apologise for the crappy ticket barriers..... we have so many tickets...

    NRE Ignoring Croydon tram shutdowns

Currently in Croydon, following NRE's route, except that the trams are not running due to not insubstantial paving works. Doesn't anyone have responsibility for removing trams from travel routing whilst they are out of action? I walked, but less able travellers would have been stuck.

Seven Sisters to Welwyn Garden City

A bit confused as NRE shows £11.90 for a Seven Sisters to Welwyn Garden City Anytime Single for tomorrow, but brfares shows £12.60 for a✠VICTRIA LINE NTH Anytime Single and Southern/Thameslink mixing decks only show a £15.40 ✠ANY PERMITTED Anytime single. What exactly does the ✠VICTRIA LINE...

Opinions on pre 09:30 split ticket validity, one GOLDC discount one not

Recently, I have further refined my favourite Travelcard/Boundary Zone ticket combination for travelling into London Victoria from Gatwick Airport, but this leaves me with a niggling validity issue. I'd be interested in the opinions of others. I'm using a full price Off Peak Day Return...

    Southern's Mixing Deck Broken?

For three days now I've been unable to use Southern's Mixing Deck for ticket purchases. Is this the same for everyone? I get different levels of brokenness in different browsers, but am unable to complete a ticket purchase on any device/browser. It seems to be a combination of "403...

    London Victoria PA system

I made a very rare visit to the ticket office at London Victoria yesterday. Now I know there are posters proclaiming how wonderful the upgraded PA system is, but did anyone who planned this system actually think about the poor customer standing at the ticket office trying to hear what the...

    BZ ticket on Gatwick Express

If I buy an Off Peak London Victoria - Z1-6 Travelcard and a Littlehaven to BZ6 Off Peak return , can I change at Gatwick onto the Gatwick Express on my way into London - since both tickets are Any Permitted and the BZ ticket negates the need to stop at a station as part of the "split" ...

    Anytime cheaper than Off Peak

I spotted recently that an Anytime Day Return (SDR) ticket I use from time to time is actually cheaper than the Off Peak Day Return (CDR) version. I don't want to name the ticket in case the anomaly is corrected, but is this very common? If so, it's a second lesson to add to my existing...

Buying an Off Peak ticket from a TVM at 9am

I got to Gatwick this morning and discovered that none of the ticket machines would recognise my booking reference. I tried to purchase another ticket, an Off Peak Travelcard, but at just after 9am, the machines would not offer the Off Peak ticket I wanted. Ironically, I was offered a...

    Southern Smart ticket discounts

Although my eyes are having trouble getting used to the new "Wimbledon-like" colour scheme on their website, I see today that Smart fares are at least 10% cheaper than their paper equivalents. Does anyone have any info as to whether this is a permanent feature, a promotion or (most likely in...

When break of journey becomes end of journey

I used a Gatwick to City Thameslink Off-Peak Day Return today. As I had plenty of time I decided to get off at Blackfriars and walk to my destination. The ticket barriers swallowed my ticket, which I found strange as I would have expected to be able to resume my journey at some later point...

    Network Rail - excellent response

I contacted Network Rail yesterday via their web-form to report a section of dodgy track over which a train jolted quite dramatically on Monday. Today I got a 'phone call from them to thank me for my input and to re-assure me that they were aware of the problem and that it's on their urgent...

Has anyone created a "the ticket to somewhere else is cheaper" engine?

I know split ticket engines proliferate, but it seems there are savings to be made when making a journey that can't be split, by buying a ticket to the wrong destination. I was just looking for a friend for an Off Peak Day Return (Saturday) journey from Horsham to Shepherds Bush - price...

    Confusing signs at London Victoria

I feel sorry for visitors to London looking for Rail Enquiries!

    Advice re Excess or PF

I was trying to use a "Not Underground" Off-Peak Day Return (£10.50) Gatwick to Blackfriars last Wednesday catching the 09.32 from Gatwick. The 09.32 was cancelled, so thinking quickly on my feet on how I could get into London for my meeting on time, I jumped on the 09:23 Southern service to...

    Clarification of restriction code "TN"

I purchased a "Not Underground" Off-Peak Day Return (£10.50) Gatwick to Blackfriars last week from Southern's website, which showed it being valid on the 09.32 from Gatwick. When I look up the details of restriction code "TN" with Network Rail it says: Not valid for travel on trains timed...

    Gatwick ticket collection

It's so nice to be able to praise Southern for a change! They've moved the two dedicated "collection" ticket machines at Gatwick away from all the other machines so you no longer have to queue/jostle with non collection customers to get to them. They are located on the right by the ticket office.
