Clarification of restriction code "TN"

I purchased a "Not Underground" Off-Peak Day Return (£10.50) Gatwick to Blackfriars last week from Southern's website, which showed it being valid on the 09.32 from Gatwick.

When I look up the details of restriction code "TN" with Network Rail it says:

Not valid for travel on trains timed to depart after 04:29 and before the times shown from the following stations:
09:32 from Gatwick Airport.

But brfares.com describes TN as:
Valid on any train EXCEPT those timed to Depart between 04.30 and as listed below
Gatwick Airport 0932


As I read it, Network Rail says it's valid on the 09.32 and brfares says it's not.

Am I right in thinking that Network Rail are right and brfares are wrong?

I never got to use the 09:32 in the end because it was cancelled!! But that's a long story for another thread!

I presume you mean National Rail Enquiries and not Network Rail

it says "Not valid to depart GATWICK AIRPORT 0430–0931 on any TOC".

So yes, definitely looks like an error in the restriction text. Somebody at First Capital Connect has got confused with the way it is phrased differently in the two different sources, I would say.

Thanks Indigo2, I must admit to never having seen that additional text down at the bottom (the General conditions on the right tend to induce a coma!)

It's a crucial clarification for me as the 09:32 gets me to a Blackfriars meeting on time whereas the subsequent service doesn't. So at least I can confidently travel on an Off-Peak ticket on the 09:32 (when it runs!).

... which then means you are stuck if the 0932 is late or cancelled for whatever reason and staff take a more hardline attitude in the example you gave in another thread.

For really important meetings is it really worth the saving risking missing it?

No, it's probably not. It's early days with this new meeting venue so I'm experimenting. It's worth paying for the ticket that gets me there reliably, but buying Anytime tickets regularly when I can manage without them adds up over a year.

The cost of the Anytime "Not Underground" ticket is £19 so actually it makes my usual Southern route look more attractive, as an Off-Peak travelcard is £15.80. And that route gives me the choice of 09:23 and 09:27 Gatwick to Victoria and underground over to Blackfriars.

For £16.50 I can get the "Not Gatwick Express" ticket which would allow me to come home on FCC. So, for days that I need to be at Blackfriars, the extra 70p is probably a no-brainer.
