    Bizarre routing restrictions

This screenshot from the ticketing system has just turned up on the ATW twitter feed as part of a thread on pricing between Ludlow and London. It shows routing and fares information for an advance ticket (Restriction VR) by VTWC and connections. Travel is NOT allowed via Banbury, Bedford...

No trains across Anglesey this morning

Severe flooding across the island means no trains between Bangor and Holyhead. VT have cancelled from Crewe, and ATW are starting eastbound services at Bangor. Not sure how long this will last, but the rain yesterday up to about midnight was cataclysmic.

    Bangor - Liverpool: Merseyrail strikes

Hi guys, Would a Bangor - Liverpool Off Peak return be valid via Crewe and Runcorn in the event of Merseyrail industrial action, or indeed normally? Thanks

Marches line disruption, 28 July 2017

According to Twitter there are delays up to 120 minutes due to damage to lineside equipment at Abergavenny. Passengers being advised not to travel. Disruption expected until 22.00 at least. Does anyone know what this is? Also seems there is a train failure at Shrewsbury disrupting services to...

West coast main line problems this morning (16/05)

0901 VTWC to Birmingham from Crewe was cancelled this morning on arrival at Crewe from Scotland, and replaced by a direct Euston only service. Does anyone know what was happening please?

Breaking journey outward at Birmingham New Street

I have a meeting in Birmingham next month on the same day as I have to travel Bangor to Cambridge. An anytime return is valid via Birmingham and, given that I usually go through the barriers and back in at NS rather than using staircase B or whatever it is, is there anything to stop me popping...

VTWC voyager with 2 shops & should it be swapped with XC?

I was on the 1857 Crewe (1710 from London) to Bangor yesterday and sat in coach C. I thought it unusual that the 3 bays to the coach D end were all tables, but was aware the was some refurbishment going on in voyagers. Only when I stood up to leave did I notice an out-of-use shop at the...

    Well done VTWC

I got caught up in the west coast chaos on Friday 16th, and instead of one change from Euston to Bangor went Chiltern and ATW via Marylebone, Birmingham and Shrewsbury, arriving home over 2 hours after I should have. I duly sent off my claim and fully expected to be waiting weeks due to the...

According to the Daily Post, volunteers are starting to clear the tracked of vegetation this weekend, with the aim of returning steam services between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Trawsfynydd http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/blaenau-ffestiniog-steam-railway-line-11912243 It seems the man behind...

Losing revenue on the Cambrian Coast?

Travelled down to Tywyn yesterday to visit the Talyllyn (and was amazed to be able to get the Coast Rover for less than £8 with my old git's railcard). The train down filled up rapidly, and a particularly large crowd got on at Dyffryn Ardudwy. There was no way the guard was able to get around to...

Virgin west coast delay repay issue

My wife and I travelled Bangor to Paddock Wood off peak return (1 normal, 1 senior railcard) over the weekend on November 13 - total fare for us both was £175 or so. The journey back on the Monday was delayed up from London, and we arrived in Chester too late for our ATW connection, the next...

    Signal box location, any ideas?

This photo, Morfa Crossing and dated 1901, has been posted on our local Facebook page on Anglesey. It is not local to us so far as we can see, and does not appear to be an LNWR design. Does anyone have any ideas please. Thanks. Mods, if this is in the wrong place please move it!

Bangor to Oxford off peak return

Does anyone know why I can't get an Off-peak return on January 5 before the 10.00 departure from Bangor? In the past I've never had a problem using the 0922 VT service, but this is only showing anytime fares now. There don't seem to be many off peak fares after this either, but trains back in...

Possible increase in direct services Wrexham to London

Daily Post today reports that 3 local politicians, Ian Lucas (Wrexham), Susan Ellen Jones (Clwyd South) and Owen Patterson (North Shropshire) have had "constructive talks" with Virgin about extending the 2 Shrewsbury services to Wrexham, and hope this can be done by December 2016, although they...

ATW conductor gets the Christmas spirit

Nice article in today's Daily Post about an ATW conductor who reunited a little girl from Prestatyn with her Christmas presents. Seems they were left on the train by her father and ended up in Holyhead. The conductor remembered that the father had got off in Prestatyn, sent a text to a colleague...

VWC off peak return - outward break of journey

Hi guys I need to travel Bangor - Penrith next month for a meeting, but have another in Oxenholme on the way. Can I break an off-peak return Bangor to Penrith at Oxenholme, or should I travel Bangor - Oxenholme and rebook? Does a senior railcard make any difference? Many thanks.

Bridge strike at Penyffordd - confusing signage?

Our regional rag the Daily Post is reporting that the imperial and metric height limits on the bridge under which a lorry got stuck on Thursday, earning the driver a £100 fixed penalty, do not match. The imperial gives 13 feet, while the metric shows 4.1 metres, rather than the 3.96 it should...
