Public Telephones - London Waterloo station

Hi Folks. My mobile died a nasty death last Friday and I needed to make an urgent phone call from London Waterloo. I did the usual "look for signs and have a wander around" and was surprised that no public phone was in evidence. I then asked the PCSO that was patrolling the station where I...

    Proactive Scotrail Guards

I've just come back from a (mainly) business trip to Scotland and I would like to comment on how attentive, friendly and helpful the Scotrail on-train staff are. I bought the SPT Roundabout ticket on a couple of occasions to do a LOT of line bashing around Glasgow, and had my ticket checked on...

    Euston to Glasgow 16/09

Good Morning All. I'm booked on the 13.30 train for the above trip with an Advance Single ticket. The problem I've got (assuming this service to be a Pendolino) is that I've ended up with a hideous seat (if I'm reading the Virgin "train plan correctly") i.e. Coach D Seat 33....which looks...

    Greenford Station Paintwork

I briefly visited Greenford Station in West London yesterday and couldn't help but notice that all the iron-work (roof pillars etc) were painted a sort of turquoise colour....the sort of colour that our local council used to paint drainpipes and the like back in the 1960s. I was wondering why...

Basingstoke to Birmingham New St - late 1970s

Hi all. I've just been having a conversation with my 2 sons (in their 20s) who are doubting that the above journey (direct) used to take around 3 hours (I think sometimes more). I remember catching, normally a 47 or a 33 from BSK - change of loco -but same carriage stock!- at Reading...

Hi Folks, just a quick one please. I've got to do a flying visit to Retford next week for work, though I'll have a bit of time to "do train things". I understand the station is on 2 levels. 08 735 - Running In Eastleigh

Hi Folks. I was surprised to see 08 735 moving stock around the maintenance depot in Eastleigh last Monday (24/02). I thought this loco had been stored ages ago and was "out of use". Does anyone know whether it has been re-instated officially - or was this some sort of "one-off" movement please?

    Basingstoke to Weymouth Quay 1976

Hi Folks. I've got a (distant) memory of taking a train from Basingstoke to Weymouth Quay in 1976 prior to a sea trip to the Channel Islands. I seem to remember it was a Class 74 to Bournemouth....then a Loco change to a 33 for the remainder. Would this have been the normal run of things back...
