Questions from a 12 year old.

Following my nephews visit I have 2 questions: How many unstaffed stations are there? How much does it cost to power the infrastructure (sigs/points/third rail OHL/lights etc) without any trains operating? Imagine a Christmas day without any traffic. And.......go! :D

Why is there a XC voyager on the Site logo?

:D A nephew asked that question today. He has a point, why not a HST in BR colours, less favouritism? --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Oh nuts...wrong forum. Please move to discussion

Trivia: Longest train journey between two geographically close towns

Let me explain :D Bangor and Pwllheli are 29 miles apart but would take near enough 7 hours to travel between on a train. Can you think of any other examples?

On a train but the guard is in another unit

I'm on a train without a ticket as I got held up on the way to the station. I am traveling on a warrant so no issue there, my issue is I need a return and the guard is in the other set so I can't ask them. Can I buy one at a station or do I need to see the guard when we stop at London?

    TOC/FOC Contact details

Given that most TOC/FOC's HR departments are harder to get hold of than the firing codes of our nuclear missiles, I thought this might be a good place to share details? Yes or No? --- old post above --- --- new post below --- I take that as a no then? Why are the details so damn secret? If...

    Reopening the Bangor-Afonwen line?

Most of the trackbed is still there, except for where houses and bike paths that have been built.... But, If the line was still open there would be a route around North Wales and it would genuinely help the local transport links. The Cambrian is quaint, but to actually go anywhere you have...

Been waiting 17 years for a railway job!

No wonder I'm getting frustrated! Just adding up all the time since various applications and it comes out at 202 months. I've come to realise that the railway is famous for it's slow recruitment but, oh my god it's getting silly! What's your time? :D

    User UNfriendly websites.

South West Trains and Freightliner seem to have awful application systems. SWT seems to be fragmented and a generic webiste, whilst FL seems to just not work, and in the brief moment that it does it's slower than a snail in tar. Just me, or have any of you had the same experience? :s

    spacing.

    Unused wasted track.

How many miles of unused track is there! Noticed a shedload of old rail and miles of sidings disused today whilst travelling along North Wales to Stoke. Why has this not been lifted and recycled to help fund Network Rail? Given virtually all rail is made here why cant the old stuff be melted...

    Traction motors and locos

Does each loco driving end only control the bogie under it or are the motors spread out on both bogies? If it's the first then the other bogie's motors would be running in reverse and therefore creating power ...yes? If it's the second then some motors are in forwand motion and some in...

British Rail: Leeds - London (Inside Story '91)

Saw this last night and found it both interesting and depressing at the same time. From the lack of motivation to the missing morale was it this bad in 1991? InterCity Leeds to London 1991. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRnMGQQFkME bRnMGQQFkME
