    Embarrassing problem regarding the toilets

I have a weak bladder and need to use the toilet frequently. It really, really angers me when I'm dying to go and somebody locks themselves in there for ages and obviously haven't got a ticket. Once a kid locked himself in the toilet for about 20 minutes so I called the train manager over...

Breaking journey short with advance purchase at Leighton Buzzard

Thanks all, it's good advice. I have an additional interesting query. This ticket in question, Worcester to Euston changing at Birmingham is available for next Tuesday at £7. A walk-up single from Worcester to Birmingham at that time of day is £8.10. Say I want to travel just to Birmingham...

Breaking journey short with advance purchase at Leighton Buzzard

So, what happens if somebody using an advance purchase ticket gets taken ill on their journey, so bad they are unable to continue their journey? Are they not allowed to get off one stop early in order to return home or get medical attention?

Fiding humour in other people's misfortunes

I was on a train a few weeks ago, from Birmingham to Glasgow. A couple wanted to get off with their bikes at Carlisle. Unfortunately, nobody opened the door to the bike section of the Virgin Pendolino at Carlisle, and the poor couple had to get off at the next stop....which was Glasgow...

Breaking journey short with advance purchase at Leighton Buzzard

That's a fair comment. O.K. what about this - Somebody buys an advance purchase, gets taken seriously ill and has to leave the train one station early. That would be o.k. given the circumstances I suppose. Who's to say they're not faking being ill in the hope of getting away with this --...

    Embarrassing problem regarding the toilets

Yes, but how do I actually deal with the other person thinking it's my fault and having a go at me? Look at it from my viewpoint: I. I need the toilet so I walk down the carriage and find one. 2. I see that the sign on the door says vacant. Additionally, I haven't seen anybody enter the...

Breaking journey short with advance purchase at Leighton Buzzard

It depends how you look at it. Could not buying an advance purchase ticket also be classified as "deliberate evasion of the higher fare" compared with buying a standard ticket?

Breaking journey short with advance purchase at Leighton Buzzard

Thanks. In my mind it's fair for me to do this and not dishonest. All I can think may go wrong is that the guard checks all the tickets just after leaving Euston, then I get on at Leighton Buzzard and shortly after the guard comes round, checks my ticket and sees it says Euston to Worcester...

    Embarrassing problem regarding the toilets

I've used trains extensively the past few months, for pleasure and this king of thing has happened to me at least three times...... I need the toilet on a train and it's vacant says the lit-up sign on the door. I press the button to enter, the door opens, and there's either a woman sat...

Breaking journey short with advance purchase at Leighton Buzzard

I'm sure this has been discussed many times before, but: I have seen an extremely low-priced advance single from Worcester to London Euston via Birmingham and Northampton using London Midland only, for £7. Really, I want to go to Leighton Buzzard, which on that same service is the last...

Network Railcard discount, my station won't give it me

Thanks. I got around the problem by buying the ticket online.

Network Railcard discount, my station won't give it me

FGW have lifted all restrictions regarding peak tickets and use of railcards for this coming week, I've confirmed that by Tweeting them twice. Tomorrow I want to buy an off-peak return Worcester to Colchester using my Network Railcard. Usually I can't do this until 10am, but tomorrow, there...

Network Railcard restriction this week on FGW?

Given the fact FGW are lifting peak / off-peak restrictions all this week Monday 29th to Friday 2nd Given the fact FGW are lifting peak / off-peak restrictions all this week Monday 29th to Friday 2nd January.... Do I assume that I can use my Network Railcard with FGW before 10 a.m...

Are you required to state your reason for travelling?

How about buying a return ticket to a really terrible place...and then complaining to the ticket office when you return that the place was awful and you want a refund!

Unable to get bicycle off HST?

The train was in correct formation, the front, the London-bound end, was the first class. Yes, I though the rear portion containing the bike carriage would be platformed regardless, but Evesham has an unusual signalling arrangement (due to the line going from single to double at this point)...

Are you required to state your reason for travelling?

This started off as a joke at work, but leads to an interesting question. If a railway employee, be it in the ticket office or the guard on the train, asks you the reason why you're going to a particular destination, are you obligated to give them a reason why you're travelling there? I...

Unable to get bicycle off HST?

I got on an 8-carriage HST today from Worcester Foregate Street to Evesham today. I put my bike in the designated area, right at the back of the train, in the rear power car, like I'm supposed to. At Evesham, due to being a short platform, only the front five or six carriages were on the...

FGW Lifting off-peak restrictions this coming week: a few questions

In the coming week, Monday December 29th to Friday January 2nd, First Great Western are lifting all restrictions relating to the use of peak and off-peak tickets. I'd like to ask: Are any other TOCs doing so, apart from FGW? Does this also apply to the Freedom of the South West rover...
