Train from Wigan Wallgate to Wigan North Western

Just realised my mistake again! How about Redditch to Solihull, requiring a walk between New Street and Moor Street? That's probably a better example.

Train from Wigan Wallgate to Wigan North Western

Thanks, I forgot about the direct trains every hour via Kidderminster! I picked a bad example, should have said a weekday train from Worcester to Stratford upon Avon.

Train from Wigan Wallgate to Wigan North Western

Or on a related topic, when I travel from Worcester to Solihull, for example, I have to walk from Birmingham New Street to Moor Street station. Could I insist I'm paying to travel by train, and don't want a 6 minute walk between these two Birmingham stations?

Train from Wigan Wallgate to Wigan North Western

It takes only a minute to walk between these two stations, but what would happen if I went to the ticket office at Wigan Wallgate and asked for a train ticket to Wigan North Western? They would say walk it, but what if I insisted I wanted to go by train? Would they sell me a ticket under the...

Longest train journey to go the shortest distance

I'm thinking of Whitby to Scarborough: 4 trains taking about 4 hours to travel approximately 20 miles. Any more examples more extreme than this?

    Going further costing less

Thanks. Naturally if I go from Worcester to Reading, I ask for the cheaper ticket to Wokingham, then simply not go the extra distance to Wokingham, and save about a fiver; not sure if this makes me a cheapskate!

    Going further costing less

I discovered accidentally that an off-peak day return from Worcester to Wokingham is a few pounds cheaper than the same type ticket Worcester to Reading. But going from Worcester to Wokingham is get a train to Reading and then go about 7 miles further. Why is this? Any more examples?

    Breaking journeys

Yes that's right. What if they get really funny and say something like "I'm in charge of this train so I say what's valid and not valid" or "You've broken your outward jouney, pay for another or get off at the next stop" ? Similar happened to me when I used a Cornish rover ticket on...

    Breaking journeys

Thanks for the detailed reply. So, if the train company doesn't make public the fact that they don't allow outward break of journeys, then it's ok. I've had this problem a few times, the ticket inspector adamant that "you can only break your return journey, not the outward journey", always...

    Map showing speed limits

Is there a map available, or table, or a list, showing the line speed limits along various railway lines? I'm particulaly interested where exactly in the UK the line speed is 125mph. Does anybody know of such a map available? Or just a list showing the speed limits across various railway...

    Greatest saving with advance purchase?

I bought an advance purchase ticket recently which cost about 25 percent of the normal walk-on fare. What's the greatest saving you've had, or know about, with an advance purchase ticket? Can I exclude the very cheap Megatrain deals that Virgin and South West Trains used to do, just...

Network Card to Worcester During Reading Blockade

Yes they are, I asked at Worcester Foregate Street

    Breaking journeys

Regarding day return tickets and period return tickets, not advance purchase: I often break my journey at an intermediate station for a break, for maybe an hour or so, then continue my journey to my destination. Several times, the ticket inspector on the train has said I can break my...
