London to Cambridge return, departing Liverpool Street, returning to Kings Cross

This Saturday, I want to do the following trip.... From London, I want to visit both Stansted Mountfitchet and also Welwyn Garden City in one day. O.k., I could buy a day return London to Welwyn and then come back to London and buy a day return London to Stansted Mountfitchet. But what I'm...

Super off-peak day returns and a question about using them

Please forgive me if this has been asked before, but... I notice there are some extremely low fares, "super off-peak day returns" available in my area, in some cases costing around just a third of the price of a normal day return ticket. However, these tickets are only available after 6pm, it...

    A few questions about Megabus

I was thinking, sometimes it seems with Megabus it's cheaper to book a longer journey on the same coach. (Something like - London to Middlesbrough is at times a few pounds more expensive than London to Newcastle, on the same service). What's stopping somebody wanting to go from, say, London to...

A few questions about St Annes-on-sea

Hi Yorkie, thanks, you're right. I have about 50 minutes wait at Preston, I just checked, and the itinerary you give is correct for my ticket. I booked it over a month ago and was going by memory.

A few questions about St Annes-on-sea

I'm getting the 04.52 service from St Annes-on-sea station to Preston on my way to Dumfries next Wednesday, The first question is, why are the first 3 or 4 services of the day always run by replacement buses? This always seems to be the case, it's not engineering works as far as I can tell...

Worcester to Alvechurch, and also what does "Not via Birmingham" mean?

Yesterday, I bought an off-peak day return from Worcester to Alvechurch for just £5.40. I have a few questions about this ticket. Firstly, given the fact that there were no trains stopping at Barnt Green on the Worcester Foregate Street to Birmingham New Street journey, I have to change at...

Furthest distance for A Day Return ticket?

I know of some places about 70 to 80 miles from my home station where I can buy a Day Return ticket for the journey. What examples are there of two stations 100+ miles apart where you can buy Day Return tickets for the journey? What's the furthest known distance between two stations where...

Cheapest day return from Worcester to Newport?

I just did the journey with no problems at all. My ticket wouldn't go through the barrier at Newport but I just showed my ticket to the attendant saying I'd return later.

Cheapest day return from Worcester to Newport?

Thanks, that's good advice. I think I'm going to ask them to double check the ticket's valid via Hereford / Newport when I buy it and then ask them to print out an itenerary. Then if I get any problems, I'll show them the printout and say it's the way the ticket office sent me.

Cheapest day return from Worcester to Newport?

I'm planning to do this trip tomorrow. Please can somebody tell me what I need to do if the guard on the train challenges me?. Would it help if, when I buy the ticket, I ask the person at the ticket office to confirm it's valid via Hereford & Newport? What do I do if a member of train staff...

Cheapest day return from Worcester to Newport?

There are no day returns available from Worcester to Newport (South Wales), just an off-peak return at £31.60. I think I've found a way to do it legally for just £13.60, but can somebody please confirm if I'm definitely allowed to do it this way. I buy an off-peak day return from Worcester...

Questions about a RailSail ticket to Belfast

Thanks. I currently have no passport, driving licence or other photo I.D., so I wouldn't be allowed to board a plane, so the ferry is presently my only option. Thanks for the advice anyway.

A few questions about buying multiple advance purchase tickets for one journey

I notice on that Greater Anglia Liverpool Street to Great Yarmouth £13 ticket, I could pay £3 more for a London Euston to Great Yarmouth advance purchase ticket. This would obviously be the same journey, just with the tube journey added, so technically that would cover the entire journey I'm...

Questions about a RailSail ticket to Belfast

I live in Worcester and want to visit both Dublin and Belfast by ferry and train. I know the whole journey is going to take me maybe 12 to 13 hours, but I don't mind. One way of going from Worcester to Belfast would be to go on the route Worcester - Birmingham - Glasgow - Ayr - bus to...

I'm sure similar subjects have been discussed many times before, but I'm looking for specific answers to my questions please. I'm travelling from Worcester to Great Yarmouth. Fares can be £100+ plus, but I've found a way to do it for about £20 each way buying several advance purchase tickets...

"The track is missing" - Help needed with working out what happened on my journey

I've always wondered what had happened with a journey I made about 12 years ago, now's my chance to ask you experts. I experienced my weirdest ever excuse for a delayed train. I was making a late-evening journey from York to Birmingham on what was then Virgin Crosscountry. We came to a...
