Please forgive me if this has been asked before, but...
I notice there are some extremely low fares, "super off-peak day returns" available in my area, in some cases costing around just a third of the price of a normal day return ticket. However, these tickets are only available after 6pm, it seems. (The cut-off time is some time between 6 to 6.30 pm, I'm not quite sure, but for the sake of this question I'll say it's 6pm).
O.K, I know I can't board a train using the ticket until it becomes valid at 6pm.
So, imagine I'm travelling from station A to station C via station B.
Station B could be either an intermediate station along the route, or a station where I would have to change.
I buy the super off-peak day return but I can't board at my starting station, station A, because the ticket's not valid just yet as it's not quite 6pm yet.
So, I walk / bike / get a lift to station B and board there. As it's now past 6pm, my ticket's now valid all the way to my destination station C. Or is it?
If I get challenged by the on-train staff, could I say the ticket allows break of outward journey / starting my journey at a station closer to my destination, or something similar, and I'm doing nothing wrong?
