Hi all,
Can anyone find a split ticket option which knocks money off my cheapest find so far please?
Two £20 advance singles are my best at the moment, for a total of £40.
Need to be in Liverpool before lunch time, and be back in Malton by 10pm, which is about the last train anyway...
Pasing has been under construction for years hasn't it? I seem to recall passing through it in 2011 and it was being knocked to pieces then, too. It's still a bit of a mess - or was in May anyway.
As for the 4-track construction - I recall the train slowing several times to pass workmen on...
Parts 3 and 4 now online for those interested:

I did consider it to be honest, but there was some sort of event/convention in Nuremberg, and the thought of checking in to a hotel at 4am didn't inspire me!
The second part is online now by the way.

It was funds to be honest, and my own fault.
Just three weeks prior to going, I realised that DB's own German Rail Pass wasn't valid to European citizens, so we had to book set trains with short notice.
Hamburg to Munich on the sleeper was in excess of 200. The Hamburg-Wuerzburg seat in...
Hi all,
I hope you'll forgive some blatant plugging, but I thought this may be of interest to you. I wondered whether I should post it in Trip Reports, but that seemed UK based.

The rest will be updated at least daily, so...
Hi all,
For the amount of train travel I do, I can't believe I've done this. Complacency maybe.
I'm going to Stansted tomorrow from Doncaster for a flight.
I'm travelling back from Stansted to Doncaster a week on Monday (24th June).
I booked the Stansted to Peterborough section fine...
Hi all,
I have a 16-25 railcard, and need to get to get to Langley Mill and back next Saturday from Ormskirk.
In terms of time, I need to be at Langley Mill no later than 2 and depart from 5:15 onwards.
The cheapest I've found so far is just over £30 return.
Any split fares/alternate...
Hi all,
Looking to get a return to Slough from Liverpool Lime Street on Friday 8th February, coming back Sunday 10th February.
I have a 16-25 railcard.
Time constraints: afternoon preferable on Friday but not essential, but must arrive back in Liverpool by 11pm on the Sunday.
The...
Do you mean the one curving round to the left?
There looks like there's a building with a platform, but it looks like a Guterbahnhof to me (Goods station).
Having followed the line round, it just joins another passenger line near Dresden Pieschen after going through a big goods yard.
Sorry to ask a daft question. I thought I knew the answer, but just making sure.
I have a Stockport to Conisbrough off peak return, which I used at 16:30ish on Monday for the Stockport-Conisbrough journey.
Am I right in thinking that the return part of the journey does not have the...
It's in German, which I speak intermediately, but is enjoyable even if you can't understand it.

Forgive the terminology, but I always find this view a bit of a 'railgasm' moment!

What do we all think? Pretty stunning photo!
Scarborough to Whitby without a shadow of a doubt.
It's such a shame, in a way, that the NYMR is so close. I genuinely believe that the coast line from Scarborough to Whitby would be more popular.
Both, being so close to each other, probably aren't viable.
The only realistic way that...
That looks fantastic, thanks!
So that would enable me to do:
Friday: Ormskirk-Preston-York-Doncaster
Saturday: none
Sunday: none
Monday: Doncaster-York-Preston-Ormskirk
Sounds good to me - thanks!

URGENT:
Forgive me for doubting you, but...
Was travelling to Liverpool earlier, and noticed a visible incline at Edge Hill station on the line as it drops into the tunnels before Lime Street.
It's not only rare that you notice an incline so steep you can see it, but to see the platform sloping too was quite bizarre.
I don't have...
Hi all,
Currently living in Ormskirk, but need to come back to York next weekend, but also visit Doncaster for a couple of nights.
As I need to be in York on Friday and Monday, it makes sense for me to use that as my ticket destination, and just get an open return to Doncaster to use...
Hi all,
Planning a future visit (December, so too early for advance fares), and notice that a single with my 16-25 railcard is £42.65, making the fare without one £64.60! This is via Preston and Carlisle.
I'm used to travelling around the north of England and have got used to it being...
Try a London Spezial ticket, valid on Eurostar and ICE, but not Thalys.
It's London to any station in Germany for a flat rate! They sell VERY quickly though.
I got a single from London St Pancras to Mittenwald (in deepest Bavaria) for €49!
The journey took 12 hours, with changes at Brussels...
