Hi all,

Planning a future visit (December, so too early for advance fares), and notice that a single with my 16-25 railcard is £42.65, making the fare without one £64.60! This is via Preston and Carlisle.

I'm used to travelling around the north of England and have got used to it being quite cheap, but that seems totally excessive.

Am I missing a trick here?

Splitting at Rufford and Brampton (Cumbria) will bring the fare down to £22.70 with a 16-25 railcard :

Ormskirk to Rufford Anytime Day Single £2.30
Rufford to Brampton Off Peak Day Single via Penrith £11.60
Brampton to Metrocentre Anytime Day Single £8.65
