SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

By all accounts the Chinese have reduced imports of scrap metal this year, and Newport only has so much space before they need a big ship to collect it all. Looking at very recent drone footage, Newport looks rather full of units awaiting shredding, so maybe the space for the stored shredded...

    Varamis Rail Class 321s & 325s”

Logic suggests the unconverted 321's will go and keep the converted ones plus the 325's. That brings in some money and saves spending any on conversions.

    HS2 Class 895s (Hitachi Alstom High-Speed)

My grandparents had a Tandem in the 1930's, and their holidays were using it to get from Manchester to Kent/Cornwall/Ireland etc. The key being that it was designed to be cycled, not carried on a train !!

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 Stadler FLIRTs

Not only utterly lovely to travel in, the Flirts have the advantage that as new technology is developed, the power module carriage can be upgraded to bionic duckweed, mini nuclear reactor propulsion or huge solid state batteries in future....

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 Stadler FLIRTs

    Best 1st class?

HST 1st class on either GWR or LNER was unbeatable. Deep leather seats and complimentary catering on a KX-Aberdeen or Padd-Penz for the sleeper back takes some beating for a 24-hr day out.

    Air Conditioning Failures

And yet the class 345 I caught on Saturday was like a fridge, despite many doors being opened every few mins and a big open interior space to cool. So it can be made to work fine.

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Lets not forget the modern day timescales involved, where it takes 7-10 years to tender, design, build, test, accept, train and introduce a new fleet.... So any trains running out of useable economic life before say 2033 need to be planned for about now.

GWR Class 230 Information, Movements & Discussion.

50 drivers for 1 train sounds like total overkill, that's about 1 driving shift every 5 weeks if shared out equally.

GWR Class 230 Information, Movements & Discussion.

The newly created £5bn gov black hole will have to be filled from somewhere, and politically far more likely taken from transport projects than say NHS / Defence / Education / Social Security etc. I can't see any new Transport projects getting authorised for a while, much easier to kick the...

SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

No, they were scrap merchants but had a soft spot for leaving the steam locos alone until someone bought them for preservation.

Gbrf 769/5 Parcels units, ex 769/9 GWR units

I'm sure its only a 5-year stop gap until Electric HGV's are mainstream. Volvo already has a 400km range HGV cab, with a 600km range debuting very soon. Like it or not, 5 years from now and road haulage will be very different, especially hub to hub deliveries with rapid charging at each end...
