Assuming the allocations to RTT are correct, then this mornings 2D09 0720 Wimbledon to Epsom was the first passenger train since last September for 5871 and a return to service after a lengthy absence for 5868

I’ve not got an accurate date as it moved by road from Long Marston, but it was scrapped in 2022, around the same time as the Southern 455’s and 456’s.

I believe it was moved around December 2021

Are 455701, 702, 714, 750, 865, 869, 871 and 903 all Still out and running. These are the last 455s i need.

5869 has been at Eastleigh Works undergoing wheel bearing repairs/replacements for a few months now. Once completed it should be back out in service.

That’s when it was moved to Long Marston, it was one of the first 455’s to go.
Was there a reason why it was stood down so early? It was the oldest 455 in the fleet after all.

They seem to be leaving the 455s at lydney as there is a light loco to Crewe shortly after the 455s arrive.

Perhaps continuation to Newport later this week ? Nothing in the system yet though.

AIUI, from earlier posts, Unimetals (previously Sims) have virtually no storage space on site, so arriving vehicles head more or less straight to the shredder. Just as well that Woodhams didn't work that way, we'd have very few steam locos left!

I think we might be jumping to conclusions here - previous movements to Lydney Goods Loop (Heathrow 360s for instance) have been taken onto the Dean Valley Railway, either for use there or for forward road transport to destination, which may not be Sims (or Unimetals as they are now called).

Woodhams were the family/company that operated Barry scrapyard in the 1960s and onwards. They bought lots of withdrawn steam locos for scrapping but actually cut up very few of them. Many of the steam locos in use on heritage lines today spent years or even decades stood there.

No, they were scrap merchants but had a soft spot for leaving the steam locos alone until someone bought them for preservation.

Last time 5701 and 5702 were seen on trainlogger was may. I wouldn't be surprised if they are both being stripped at Wimbledon.

Annoying as they are both units i still need.
