Although ordered last September, I don't remember seeing a thread on it - here's the latest. Wonder how long the local-gas-for-local-buses policy will remain...
Link. Also a press release from Scania.
Article comes complete with the usual "why don't they get us cheaper fares rather than...
As you may have noticed, last year I kept a running record of the number of posts on this forum started specifically by posters who had recieved a notice of intention to prosecute following a ticketing related incident on the railway. I'm posting it here as a talking point for discussion on the...
... but I can't see a £26.50 return from London to Liverpool shown in the attached LM advert. All sources show £28 for the OPR, though it was £26.50 in the summer. Has the price gone up recently and the ad not been updated?
Trivial question but one I've been wondering about for a while - what's the highest altitude a FGW HST would achieve in regular service? (For those unfamiliar with the sets, the seat-back TVs include a moving map which shows not only speed but altitude).
Highest I've seen is ~510 feet...
From the BBC:
Having looked at the map, I can see why it closed so quickly - it's less than a mile from Slough station! Although there seems to be some new housing development in the area since 1930 it's not a lot bigger. I'm not familiar with the area but can't see much demand for the...
Pretty sure about this, but just wanted to check as none of the booking sites will accept it.
With a Reading-Bodmin Parkway SSR, am I OK to travel via Cheltenham on the return? Seems to be allowed by maps SW+WR, but just wanted to confirm.
Around half nine tonight a London-bound service arrived at platform 8 (neé 5) which was amounced several times as being set-down only. What was this, and why set-down only (not something we're used to in Reading)? I assume it's something to do with the sports day thing in Essex?
Let's say I want to take my daughter (who is under 5) for a day out in Bristol, travelling from Reading.
I hold a season ticket between Reading and Didcot, and Off Peak Day Return tickets Didcot-Bristol, discounted with a Family and Friends Railcard, for 1 adult + 1 child.
Do I have to...
What's going on with NRE? There seem to be some changes to the layout and options, but more significantly it's massively broken - dates disappear, ticket types don't show up etc. And the "show calling points" link is mysteriously absent from itineraries :|
Anyone else having problems? I'm...
Just tried to buy a this ticket for a Reading-Claygate journey on Sunday from Didcot, to be told by the clerk that pie couldn't find it on the system. I even told her the code (SCO) with no luck. NRE quotes £15.70.
Can it really not be on the system, or is it just hidden away somewhere?
I don't really know a lot about claiming delay compensation so just wanted to ask whether I'd be entitled to anything and if so where to apply...
Journey was Mirfield-Reading yesterday (Monday 2nd Jan). Planned to get the 1613 direct GC service Mirfield-London KX, which was cancelled...
Hi All,
Rather late notice I realise but just wondered if anyone has a better suggestion for the itinerary below (quickly as I'll book tickets this evening in order to reserve seats!):
Tomorrow (30/12) - Stroud to Carlisle
New year's day (1/1) - Carlisle to Mirfield
2nd January - Mirfield to...
(Mods Feel free to move this post if it would be better elsewhere, I realise its a bit pie-in-the-sky :))
Ive been thinking about the proposed services to be run from Marylebone to Oxford by Chiltern as part of Evergreen 3. On the face of it, a more frequent service to London is to be...
Quick question - does anyone know what the situation is with routeing on the scratchcard-type free weekend travel tickets given out by FGW to season ticket holders? I assume it's like the Club 55 offer in that one may travel off a permitted route in order to stick to a single TOC, but it's not...
Sorry for the extreme post length!
TL;DR - What ticket to buy for Reading-Carlisle via S&C one way and direct back, and how busy?
What we'd like to do is the following: Reading to Carlisle, via the S&C to Carlisle, ideally avoiding London but not if the time penalty is huge. Return...
Hi All,
Looking for fares for Reading (RDG) to Nottingham (NOT) - out tomorrow, back the following day. Don't want Advance fares, leaving late morning each day. Want the fastest non-London journey. 2 adults & baby - no F&F railcard yet but will probably get one before.
To beat: RDG-NOT...
A couple of weekends ago I was making a journey from Stroud to London I already had a ticket to Reading and wished to purchase a Day Travelcard from Reading. As I didnt have time to go to the ticket office (which is, excitingly, now actually open most of the time!) before the train arrived...
Siemens, according to Railway Eye:
Not sure what I make of this - personally I have a slight preference for the Electrostar design, but either way it's good to see some move movement! Whatever we get has got to be better than the current rolling stock!
On board an evening Bournemouth bound XC service from Oxford to Reading:
*Approaching Reading* "Ladies and Gentlemen, we are now approaching Reading... blah blah... Please note that we are due to depart at xxxx, so we will have around ten minutes wait at Reading". Train stops briefly outside...
Does anyone know anything about the mysterious appearance of "Route:Chiltern Only" tickets on NRE, priced the same as the normal "Route:High Wycombe" (or similar) tickets?
Are there other examples where flows have changed from a geographical routeing to a TOC? Why is it done - to simplify...
