On my way back from London to Wigan, I spotted a Chiltern Railways unit slowly entering Milton Keynes (or Bletchley) at about 3pm. Not the usual stomping ground for a Chiltern unit. What was happening?
Both ways I've been bowled by having a stopper in front of a semi-fast service. Is this the normal way of operating on this line or is there something occurring today that my worse-than rudimentary French hasn't picked up on on signage/announcements?
My regards.
A quick question.
The water that comes out of the tap in toilets on trains is labelled not drinkable so it's not from the mains. Where does the water come from then?
I'm planning a Wigan to Bath Spa journey and was intrigued to find that going via Birmingham or via the Marches line returned the same journey time of about 4 hours and a few minutes. Also going via London gave 4 hours and 10 minutes. I was expecting the Marches routing to be a longer journey...
On Thursday I'll be basing myself in Wolverhampton and visiting the 5 newly opened stations: Darlaston, Willenhall, Pineapple Road, King's Heath and Moseley Village.
I will try to also do that crack of dawn Wolverhampton to Walsall service if it is still running too. It has eluded me 2 times so...
Begin to nail down an itinerary for the Summer.
I downloaded the SNCF map to investigate different routes from Eurostar to Zurich.
I first looked at Lille - Valenciennes - Charlesville-Mezieres - Metz - Strasbourg - Mulhouse - Basel - Zurich but got confused with the results from googling...
Hi.
Is it possible to buy SailRail tickets from Wigan to Douglas (IOM) (not too fussed whether it is Liverpool or Heysham) and Dublin/Dun Laoghaire back to Wigan for April?
PS: Can I do a break of journey at Drogheda (for Newgrange) on a Larne - Dublin ticket?
Happy Christmas
Both of the Cadbury plants at Chirk and Leominster are very close to the railway. I dont think either currently have a rail connection but did they ever have a connection to rail?
Very curious that both facilities are along the Marches line in an otherwise poor-ish road transport area.
I notice there was a test train under the newly wired Wigan - Bolton line. What is the timetable for electric services on this line?
I'd like to have a ride one weekend.
What is the correct contactless fare for a journey beginning after 6pm on a weekday from Langley - Stratford (London) then Central Line around the Hainault Loop and back to Langley?

Whilst the owners of Dunrobin Castle were proponents of this railway line, who owns the platform (and adjacent path/land to allow passenger access) at Dunrobin...
There is a recent ad I see online and on TV from Northern Railway promoting 500+ destinations.
Advert:
(Advert for Northern Railways showing people going to the city, seaside, commuting or days out with clear reference to 500+ destinations)
Yes. Northern do call at 500+ stations but I would...
Hi,
I want to go to/from Aberdeen at Easter. I've no railcards. I've had a look at Advance prices for next month as I couldn't see tickets in April available yet so I'm basing my best current price on a £40 Advance going and £80 Advance returning later in the week.
Is there any tips for a...
Searching this forum for stations mentioned in the main section and Fares & Ticketing sections since 1 Jan and saw that Brithdir was mentioned once.
Can anyone find other stations with one or even zero mention this year?
Be interesting to know what, if anything, links these.
I'm planning a getaway to Shetland in the February half-term, inspired by the BBC crime drama series.
I'm probably going to fly from Edinburgh Airport and stay for one or two days. Getting to Aberdeen and then the ferry is too long for me and there seems to be no flights from...
The Bank Quay in Warrington Bank Quay I presume refers to some structure along the Mersey near the station. Are there any visible and accessible remains of Bank Quay to have a look at?
How do I go about delay repay with a ticket bought at a station?
Situation today is thus:
0546 Wigan NW - Euston cancelled at Stafford (meant to arrive London at 0800)
0724 Stafford - Birmingham NS
0814 Birmingham Moor Street due London Marylebone 1015
(Praying for no carnage on way back with...
I'm going to get an Interrail 7 days in 1 month pass to cover a week in July doing the following:
Wigan to Lieges.
Lieges to Luxembourg
Lieges to Dusseldorf (for Wuppertal Schwebebahn)
Lieges to Brussels/Amsterdam
Lieges to Wigan
I'm wondering if this is do-able or if I'm squeezing too much...
