Something strange out and about today. According to RTT an 8 car Class 380 has been allocated to the following services: 5K80 - 11:55 Ayr CSD to Ayr 2K80 - 12:06 Ayr to Glasgow Central 1F65 - 13:18 Glasgow Central to Ardrossan Harbour 1F68 - 14:36 Ardrossan Harbour to Glasgow Central 2K89 -...

Glasgow Central and associated infrastructure: Upgrades needed for HSR

It really does interest me with how they are going to go about this. Perhaps the redundant buildings and the regularly used tracks that pass the buildings could be lifted with the buildings demolished. They could reinstate the old sidings as running lines as they aren't used to stable stock...

Glasgow Central and associated infrastructure: Upgrades needed for HSR

Aren't the 400m trains going to be the combined length of a double HS2 unit? Wouldn't it only be single sets running to Glasgow, with possible provision for double sets?

Glasgow Central and associated infrastructure: Upgrades needed for HSR

The bridges are another issue, as well as getting clearence to knock those buildings down. They include nightclubs, casinos and a Wetherspoons. I think they should tread carefully as they don't want to risk causing public outcry by knocking down popular buildings. The other issue is the bridges...

Glasgow Central and associated infrastructure: Upgrades needed for HSR

I think something else they could do, is extend the concourse down to Bridge Street and link up with the Umbrella, with platforms on the other side. You could also do a subway connection at Bridge Street station.

Glasgow Central and associated infrastructure: Upgrades needed for HSR

Wouldnt that be difficult due to the terrain and towns around it. Particularly Motherwell and Cambuslang. I wonder how they will get around it.

Glasgow Central and associated infrastructure: Upgrades needed for HSR

Agreed. Good idea about the splitting, since there could be quite a lot to discuss about this.

Glasgow Central and associated infrastructure: Upgrades needed for HSR

Looks like Central may be seeing quite a bit of work getting done to it. I wonder how platforms over the Clyde would look...

Glasgow Central and associated infrastructure: Upgrades needed for HSR

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/edinburgh-waverley-station.123351/ I think work like this may need to take place at other stations where they need to modernize. Edinburgh Waverley is a nice station, but the concourse can become very crowded due to the limited...

Is the UK 'overdue' a serious rail accident?

As many other people have said, luck has played a part in it. However, luck always runs out one day. There have been loads of incidents where even seconds have mattered. Chalfont and Latimer springs to mind, had that Chesham Met train been crossing onto the branch, it could’ve turned out...

ScotRail estimating services to be disrupted until the end of day on the 6th of August.

    ScotRail services

Most of the core routes in the Central Belt are pretty much gone. The roads aren't bearing up well either. I believe there are no trains to Helensburgh at all, with the e2g via Falkirk and Cumbernauld being closed to trains too.

    ScotRail services

Not a very great day for ScotRail today, severe flooding across the network resulting in over 100 train cancellations.

    ScotRail services

I'd imagine they are getting very close to their regular level. Even though they are every 15 minutes, Staff may refuse for you to board a service via Falkirk High during peak times if they know it's going to get busy. You should try a less busier route, for example via Shotts or via Airdrie...

    Milngavie-Edinburgh service

I don't think the people of Helensburgh will be too happy that you intend to add more stops to their services. If anything was to pick up Bowling and Kilpatrick it would be the Balloch service, as Helensburgh has always typically been faster north of Partick.

    Announcements overkill

On a First bus atm. After every stop the bus opens it’s doors at tgere is always an announcement saying to wear a face covering as it is mandatory.

Currently on the 12:43 Saltcoats to Glasgow Central train. What do ScotRail run? A three carriage Class 380. This service does get busy at places like Johnstone. Even though it’s nearly time to return to normal service, they should really refrain from running 3 car units in single formation

    ScotRail services

Apparently queuing has been enforced at Glasgow Central, or maybe that’s a ploy to make people use another method of travel

    ScotRail services

Scotrail have been limiting passengers on services to Ayr and Largs due to the large amount of people travelling. Can only imagine how busy the last train from Largs will be as that is only a 4 car 380.

    Stagecoach West Scotland

Will there be a possibility of the service they introduced as a replacement for the X34 to be returning? That is it runs as a Service 25 from Irvine to Beith before becoming an X36 to Glasgow.
