Change to EMR First Class - what will it mean?

Not snobbish at all, just honest mate. I good friend of mine used to work for Virgin Atlantic. She said the contrast between working business flights out of Heathrow compared with the predominately holiday flights from Gatwick was so stark. The former usually had their meals & drinks then wanted...

    RETB Systems

I really missed RETB when it was abolished on the East Suffolk back in 2012.

Change to EMR First Class - what will it mean?

Of course but back then it was crisps and orange juice too.

Change to EMR First Class - what will it mean?

Which is why GA stopped offering 1st class freebies on weekends. It was embarrassing to watch how desperate many passengers behaved to get as much as they could, often wasting it.

    New Year’s Day services

It’s nice quirky little regional anomaly’s that’s been the case in the NE for as long as I can remember.

    New Year’s Day services

Here in East Anglia EMR are running a full weekday service. GA are also running a full off peak timetable with a slightly later start on most routes apart from those affected by engineering works. There’s even a relief service operating Norwich - Sheringham-Cromer & Cromer to Norwich for the NYD...

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

Yes as said, having the same point mitigates any stop short & release issues. Safety of the line tends to override customer experience nowadays.

Cross-country overcrowding: what could be done?

And the traincrew will be on exactly the same T&Cs. It is what it is unfortunately.

Cross-country overcrowding: what could be done?

It’s been slightly alleviated but apart from that, no.

On what routes, if any does on train catering make a profit?

Yeah some of our Senior Conductors at Anglia Railways would do it to assist stretched catering staff but this was never official and would never be dictated by management. That would have put the cat amongst the pigeons.

    Eurostar Chaos: 30/12/2025.

No idea. I’m chilled out at home watching tv.

    Eurostar Chaos: 30/12/2025.

Is that no availability or no trains? Seems to be some conflicting news this afternoon.

Nearby hotels will be cashing in then.

    Eurostar Chaos: 30/12/2025.

Thats fantastic news for all except the airlines then. Probably caused a stressful few hours for all those booked to travel, many of whom may have already spent quite a bit on non-refundable alternatives.

    Eurostar Chaos: 30/12/2025.

No more Eurostar services today according to BBC travel. Airlines can now at least triple the cost of any available seats ;)

Could railway shift work be improved or made more gradual?

Seniority still comes into play at my depot if two drivers have the same datum time. The senior driver picks up the earliest turn off spare. Unfortunately that doesn’t mean it has the earliest finish time.

Could railway shift work be improved or made more gradual?

We always had several drivers/guards that did ‘permanent’ swaps. Main thing that would catch them out was the occasional Sunday where either would not get their compulsory 12hrs rest from their Saturday or Monday turns of duty. Some were happy to jack that Sunday in whereas others would organise...

Could railway shift work be improved or made more gradual?

But to be fair thats just how it is. Anyone not able to cope with that should remain or head back to what others refer to as the real world.

"Doors will open on the left hand side" - whose left?

I always assumed within transportation that it means on the left ‘in the direction of travel’.

LNER (and other TOC) Named Trains
