Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

But the train wouldn’t move as the procedure would be stopped if the dispatch corridor was blocked.

LNER (and other TOC) Named Trains

Over the years “The East Anglian” has been synonymous with the GEML. Originally an afternoon train from Norwich it settled down to depart Norwich at 07:45, 07:55 & then for years under NXEA at 07:40. That operator even went overboard and named a class 90 loco too. It was shown on display screens...

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

But that would be looked at as possibly just causing a slight delay with the dispatch process whereas stop short and release would be a far more serious issue.

Change to EMR First Class - what will it mean?

Sounds like it’s been quietly swept into a cupboard :|

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

Oh I would have to disagree with that it isn’t considered. Of course it will be brought into question when any alteration is made to the stopping points and will be balanced between the operating and customer focused side of the decision but safety/risk will always trump that argument. That’s...

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

LNER are certainly not alone in using this practice.

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

Our railways have always opted for ‘operational convenience’ over passenger expectation. That is nothing new but if it’s possible to remove a risk that may cause a safety of the line incident then that will certainly be pursued in these H&S days even if that causes a small customer inconvenience.

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

You are coming across as rather bitter about the grade for some reason by your wording.

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

It’s so easy to faze out and not look or listen, believe me. I did it all the time. 1767476915 It’s so so easy to zone out. That’s when it all goes wrong. Best to stick to a common stopping point. Far fewer drivers restricted or on a plan then.

Change to EMR First Class - what will it mean?

I was really bemused when catering was withdrawn on the longer Weymouth & Exeter routes with no effort to bring them back as passenger numbers recovered. I often used the Bournemouth trains too which seemed to do well with bar and trolley. Such a shame.

Change to EMR First Class - what will it mean?

Seems that way which is a very odd outlook. Here in the east we often have cafe bar and trolley on the Great Eastern Main Line to Norwich even trialling catering on the regional route to Stansted too!! Our catering department however has always remained in house.

Routes that previously had catering trolleys.

Used to sell Tetley Bitter. Remember buying a few cans onboard after a visit to the Wharf pub outside Burnley Manchester Road.

    New Year’s Day services

Scenes at Cromer this afternoon with passengers unable to board and that was even with a relief service added following the annual new years fireworks display.

On what routes, if any does on train catering make a profit?

I remember Travellers Fare very well indeed and although their station catering really pulled their socks up in the mid-80s (partially down to Pru Leith) some of my favourites have been Upper Crust and the likes through the 90s & 2000s. These days it’s great to have the franchise options that we...

On what routes, if any does on train catering make a profit?

Although agreeing that they are prolific these days I’ve still never used one.
