Greater Anglia - Trainee Driver - Recruitment Discussion

Sorry no I don't. Only know that some internal moves have been postponed.

    Are some trains too long?

Also the class 755s as new are not allowed to stop over level and foot crossings which would be the case with longer trains. EMR 158s and 170s can as they have grandfather rights.

    Are some trains too long?

Before 1991  I don’t think GA was about then to worry about it. I was however and rode up front on one of the then brand new 322s. Intercity provided the catering host and we had revenue officers onboard for the five passengers travelling on this half hourly service. How times change.

    Are some trains too long?

It most certainly is and always has been.

    Are some trains too long?

Not sure but both GA and the DfT seem very happy with how things are going. So good to see how busy both the airport and the trains are becoming again. 1748895178 So much rests on certain pinch points. Unfortunately nothing is moving forward.

    Are some trains too long?

Some conductors get very hot under the collar about blocking our access doors. Large cases will fit in the overhead racks. The Stadler fleet are excellent for that.

Could Stansted to Norwich trains be lengthened?

Double units cannot be accommodated at all intermediate stations between Ely and Norwich and would not allow them to serve Stansted Airport as a 12-car Stansted Express has to terminate & depart on top. There were tentative plans for 3-cars to be extended to 4, but that’s gone quiet. No...

Stations with post boxes on station property.

Wonderful postbox on Ely station with a knitted hare on the top.

Stations with post boxes on station property.

Okay but that didn't last. First Class letters where accepted on the TPO posting box up until the end.

Stations with post boxes on station property.

I don’t recall that if I’m honest. Many used to do it for the post mark especially towards the end.

Stations with post boxes on station property.

No, they were completely separate. The postboxes normally had strict collection times around 17:00-18:00 so well before any TPO staff came on duty. Separate department too. Posting was however permitted in the letter box on the side of TPOs whilst in the platform.

Norwich has a proper postbox just behind the flower stall.

    CrossCountry's Driver Shortage

It was purely a pay deal. Had nothing to do with altering T&Cs. That wouldn’t come anywhere near as easily or cheaply.

    Sizewell c construction traffic

Yes an extension and sidings that must all be removed in around 12 years time and returned to nature.

    CrossCountry's Driver Shortage

It wouldn’t simply be that they are not contracted to work Sundays so therefore expressing their right to take the day off. Nobody would bunk off as in the school days sense.

    Sizewell c construction traffic

Really not sure on that personally.

    Sizewell c construction traffic

Sizewell C traffic when it starts will be assembled at Parkeston. Up to 4 trains each night are planned to operate from there to the East Suffolk line.

Can 3 lens signals display preliminary caution?

We have 3 aspect signals that cannot show a red on the approach to Diss (up) and on the approach to Europa Jcn and Boss Hall Jcn (both Ipswich) so yes, they can show preliminary caution.

    Are some trains too long?

It was also one of the first routes that the DfT agreed to as a no-brainer to revert back to its increased 7 days a week all day 15min frequency. Stansted Airport recovered very quickly after the pandemic and I think is now well above those days in terms of passenger numbers flying in/out.

My idea to cease running trains on Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday and run trains on Boxing Day instead

No thanks. I like my guaranteed Boxing Day off. Best to leave it to volunteers who wish to work on the 26th and to the ASLEF boys & girls who can negotiate the best possible rates whether it be double or triple time along with added incentives such as additional leave.
