Cross-country overcrowding: what could be done?

Does the government really care that much about carbon emissions? I see any targets getting gradually put back further and although many care about the effects on the planet there are just as many who really don’t. Will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

    Haha. Each to their own.

Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

Only down side is that the trolley will be in the middle 755 from Liverpool St only moving to the front AFTER Colchester.

Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

I always found that so many piled into the rear and middle units rather than walking further and no matter how many announcements were made were still reluctant to get out and walk forward.

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

Only that in most occasions and under normal circumstances and probably could have worded it better as saying that it would have hopefully been detected. The occasions you mention though very important are a tiny proportion compared to the number of times something goes wrong year in year out on...

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

    Many thanks for that.

Greater Anglia Class 755s (Regional Trains)

No, as you state there is a length constraint.

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

That’s a situation no member of staff wants to be involved in. Was easily done though for most of my career as slam door stock had CDL but obviously no traction interlock. There were always guards that we all had less confidence in to dispatch safely especially if no platform staff were present...

Snowplough, deicing trains, snow clearance, etc January 2026

So good to see them in operation. Always wished I’d had the chance to plough properly with a couple of rebuilt tenders each end.

Avanti West Coast via Settle (for WCML Bridge replacement next January?)

Only to provide some excellent views and/or photographic opportunities. I don’t think it’s supposed to be severe as haven’t noticed ant weather warnings from the Met Office.

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

I do not disparage them by any means and have never implied that. I am merely saying that stopping short and releasing the doors cannot be overcome and even though somebody may not fall that driver is then on a plan or something more serious. Mitigating it by making passengers walk a little...

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

We will have to agree to disagree on the subject. 1767553644 But being trapped in doors can happen at any time and it is normally spotted and as I keep repeating, dispatch can be aborted by the platform staff or guard at any time. Under normal circumstances traction interlock would not allow...

Station names on the UK rail network that you would change

I still refer to it as City station even though I have never lived outside East Anglia. Perhaps it’s a railway thing. 1767549052 I hear people on the bus still asking for a ticket to Thorpe Station. Been my working home on/off since 1984 and it’s still used by some of the more mature members...

LNERs binned sausage rolls served to rail passengers

On the railway bin bag loads of perfectly edible products are disposed of daily. Even sandwiches on a trolley that have been out of the fridge for more than a few hours are thrown away. At one most time these were given to staff by being placed into messroom fridges but that got stopped for one...

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

Anyone can make a mistake. We are all human after all but it’s all down to how you mitigate it.
  16. dk1

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

But it would be. If somebody is standing too close or trapped then the dispatch is aborted. There is far less risk than with stop short and release.

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

No it wasn’t. I said the train wouldn’t move as dispatch would be stopped. With almost 40 years in the railway industry 27 of them driving trains I would be fully aware of what was and what wasn’t safety critical. 1767543225 As I said, the train dispatch would be stopped and restarted if it...

    That’s not what I said.

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

There are several comments regarding other operators/locations earlier in this thread. On my patch it was brought in in the last couple of years at Chelmsford and also in the bay platform at Cambridge North. The latter causing much criticism on social media.

LNER (and other TOC) Named Trains

Yes and in the same era I was thinking of The Borderer, Tyne Enterprise, Tyne Enterprise, Ayrshire Trader, and Galloway Enterprise which all ran along the Tyne Valley route.
