On what routes, if any does on train catering make a profit?

It’s always been like that. Just less so these days. It’s good to have some nice things and at least its keeping someone in a job.

On what routes, if any does on train catering make a profit?

Sometimes you can’t worry about such trivial things. Just think of it as a lovely offering onboard. I’m sure they’ll be busier later in the day and under BR it was much much more labour intensive.

December 2025 Timetable Change - Confirmed changes only

That I was. The Castlefield Corridor springs to mind my friend.

    Bad seat back tables.

Seat back tables on the GA class 745/755 fleet seem absolutely perfect but then that’s a reoccurring theme about most things with those trains.

Can’t go wrong with the 99p filter coffee served in Pret although I notice it’s £1.20 at railway stations. Even then you can take another 50p off both if using your own mug.

    Christmas Workings

That pro rata thing all changed several years ago at my train operator. It was agreed that ALL part time & job sharing staff should get exactly the same annual leave allowance as full time employees.

    Christmas Workings

Yes they are a compulsory part of your annual leave so would have no choice in that in the same way they are guaranteed to be off as part of the contract. Should either fall on a Sunday or on a rostered rest day then an additional days leave is credited. 1766242288 And yes, why would anyone...

Northumberland Line needs greater capacity (lengthened trains and/or higher frequency)

You have hit the nail on the head. Not sure why anybody planning this thought that free parking and £3 fares was going to be a particularly good idea.

    Christmas Workings

Of course but most have those two days guaranteed hence why no realistic chance of any regular services.

    Christmas Workings

Christmas & Boxing Day are the normal guaranteed days at most train operators. Bank holidays have meant nothing since the 1990s and the DRI.

    Christmas Workings

Totally that. It’s purely a voluntary thing at my depot for the few night shifts needed and always has been and I see no change in that anywhere on the horizon. Around 3-5% is the maximum number of total depot establishment that normally puts their names forward. The majority are totally...

How is the December ‘25 timetable panning out?

I was under the impression from other recent posts on here that it was operating tomorrow then again in the new year.

    Christmas Workings

28 years in the grade and I have never known much sympathy for train drivers, not that I or most of my colleagues want any, but then you are assuming this is the behaviour of all rather than a minority, as it is in all walks of life regardless of job title.

Lumo 803 to Glasgow Queen Street

There simply is just no logical point in enforcing it if it’s not causing any issues.

    XC Voyager Refurbishment

They do last. Just need the odd depot hydromist. That’ll do on/off for a couple of decades.
