Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

We could have Solent & Wessex and Kent Link :E

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

Given the stories of people trying to find the doors of goods trains held at signals in platforms, don't over estimate the common sense of the Great British Public.

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

What will the legal name of Govia Thameslink Railway be after 30th May? So far for the other former operators it's just been a case of the name staying the same (SWR, LNER etc) or dropping the company title (Abellio Greater Anglia to just Greater Anglia). But dropping the 'Govia" just leaves...

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

TfW start journeys in Birmingham and Manchester. How about RailUK? Oh wait..... How is the word "England" nationalism? That just plays into the hands of the far right. It's a descriptive term for where the trains run. Nobody's asking for "Rule Britannia Rail". Actually, ironically the red &...

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

Being pedantic, as Scotrail and TfW will continue to exist, it should really be English Rail.

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

I don't dislike the colours, but the flag emblem should only be on carriages 1 and 4, not all of them. It looks like the Human Centipede as it is.

    Class 175s to GWR

I'm not sure there's yet such a thing as GBR legally speaking, let alone a finalised livery. Aren't all the nationalised former franchises still just DfT Operator Ltd?

SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

What is the obsession with this unit? So it had a quick coat of paint, but once work starts on bodywork repairs it'd need another coat anyway. SETG were sensible and took the one in the best mechanical order, and not the one that looked prettiest.

SWR Class 458/4s: fleet status and withdrawal updates

It's still cheaper to pay off the entire lease term than to continue leasing them and pay for their maintenance.

Major rail disruption across Southern England due to radio fault (07/05)

Wooden spoon of the day goes to Newsquest Media for their article about this in the Salisbury Journal, helpfully illustrated with a picture of 745003. I suppose we should be grateful it wasn't a picture of an Amtrak Airo which is the first result in a Google image search for "train"

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Are the units currently allocated for training ready to go into passenger service once no longer required for that purpose, or do they still need to go through the final shakedown process?

GWR Cornish Night Riviera Sleeper and GWR Class 57 updates from Long Rock

I presume that's why the IET substitution exists, rather than cancelling the whole service, but hopefully this is presented very much as a decision to be made by the customer.

GWR Cornish Night Riviera Sleeper and GWR Class 57 updates from Long Rock

The sleeper is unlike any other rail service, so should really be subject to clearer refund strategies. If you expect a bed for the night and get a seat instead, that's not the service advertised. I would expect either a full refund, or being acommodated in a local Travelodge or similar with...

SWR Class 458/4s: fleet status and withdrawal updates

How much space is left at Long Marston? There's the whole 350/2 fleet, the 769/0s and 769/9s and a few 458/5s. Can the 458/4 fleet be accommodated in addition?

    Go South Coast

Courtesy of my bus loving son, (11 years old) is this the first electric X3? It's the Downton Cuckoo Fair today, so Morebus are putting on a few reliefs, including this Salisbury Reds vehicle. Photographed in Fordingbridge.

SWR Class 458/4s: fleet status and withdrawal updates

I guess they need the depot space with the remaining 701s slowly but surely arriving.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Is the 458/4 requirement reducing, or are these in turn displacing a couple of 450s from the Windsor/Reading side?

    Thoughts on the Trump presidency

There are increasing parallels between Trump and a certain Michael Jackson: Questionable behaviour with people under age Portraying yourself as some sort of Christ figure Making increasingly unhinged statements And both of them surrounded by "yes" men who encouraged them to believe their own...

    Thoughts on the Trump presidency

Went over £100 filling up the car today. Yes it's got a huge fuel tank, but still it's a psychological milestone.
