DOWN UNDER with TT-ONR-NRN (+ other overseas ventures)

Emirates 1st Class is sensational. A shower at 38,000ft! And a bathroom as big as the one at home :D

Sense of Entitlement to a Table Window Seat on the Right - Help Please

RealTime Trains is generally very reliable at displaying the departure platform before the train departs - so you can generally get to the train first - especially useful at big stations. Depending on the route you can pre-book and select your seat too. (usually Intercity services)

Trip Report: Inverness to Kings Cross / Jan 23

This is from January but I still remember the tasty food on board! It's been a while since I have travelled anywhere, and I had a lovely trip with LNER from Inverness to London. The flight takes about 60 minutes so am usually happy to fly economy, but with the train journey taking 7hrs 55...

Cross Country Trains produce a useful PRINTED Timetable booklet again.

My only issue with the Pocket Timetable is that you can only specify certain time scales, if they could do the whole day it would be better. (Printing the "official" timetable of any route takes up reams of paper.) Better still, all the TOCs should publish timetables again. It's easier to...

Heathrow Express travellers defecting to Elizabeth line

They got rid of lovely trains with an amazing First Class... (Which was pricy) 1682951468 I think Gatwick Express should be consigned to history too. And the Stansted Express renamed to remove the word Express 1682951611 I read somewhere that people are buying tickets to the stop before the...

Printed Avanti ticket not showing what train I'm booked onto

Showed them the booking confirmation and said just show that to the conductor with the ticket if he asks. Wick Inverness is slightly more informal though than say AWC

Scottish Rail & Sail Rover tickets no longer valid on Calmac

I would say this is more CalMac attempting to control passenger numbers, given the age of the fleet and their well publicised problems.

GWR train - Not Valid Railcard by 3 minutes.

I checked and Railcard discount is offered on 0927 - although it is attached to an Advance fare.

If the service is Mon-Fri, and consists of 2 Voyager units, XC stipulate that you should sit in Coach A if you want refreshments in First Class.

Printed Avanti ticket not showing what train I'm booked onto

I had the exact same thing with ScotRail from Wick to Inverness, on an advance ticket. Station sorted it out,.

The Good bad and the Ugly Part Of travelling by rail in the UK

For me it's the general feeling of "Meh" amongst TOCs. My pal was a signaller on the West of England line and is bewildered at the number of times SWR cancelled services in the last year (emergencies excepted) due to signal failure. He said that there are procedures in place when these things...

    Historic airports (photos/video)

I don't have any pictures but as a travel agent in the early 90s I used to hand write dozens of tickets to Unst in the Shetlands. Three letter code: UNT.
