    Scottish Citylink

When I was at Edinburgh at 4am on 5th August, Ember charged me £14.25 to Inverness. Citylink wanted £27.50. Which feels suspiciously like the fare before the fare cap in the Highlands was introduced. Fares are supposed to reflect this when journeys cross the fare cap boundary.

ScotRail - New app / website booking engine from 30 July 2026

Wick now appears first when you type it in. Use the official code WCK and Warwick comes up first. Although they sell seated sleeper tickets, avoid using their app for this (I'm sure I am preaching to the choir here): Inverness - Euston comes up with a fare of £233.40. I checked a random date...

    Ember: Electric coach service

Had a nice journey on Ember from Edinburgh City Centre at 5am this week. The bus at my stop was the 0421hrs to Fort William. Driver said it was rarely busy but the return journey was usually very busy. My coach arrived (E9) - one driver drove the coach in from Dundee as the E1 and mentioned...

    National Express Coaches Discussion

I wouldn't be surprised either. When Megabus launched four coaches a day from Weymouth to Heathrow and Victoria, the response from National Express was go cut one of the two 035 services from Weymouth. Megabus dropped their service after a few weeks. The second 035 service never resumed They...

Are SWR's on board announcements excessive?

I have to say going from Dorchester South to Waterloo yesterday, the announcements were fine until Bournemouth when we attached to another five coaches. From Bournemouth the announcements were incessant. There was the usual repeated warning about having the correct ticket, my ticket was...

    Caledonian Sleeper

So all a bit inconvenient but I clocked that there was a 5am Ember service to Inverness for £14.25 so left Waverley and did that. Arrived Inverness in plenty of time for my northbound Ember. Incidentally, Citylink were charging £27.50 single, although they claim to honour the £2 fare cap from...

    Scotrail First Class upgrades

Here's a "how long is a piece of string" question - maybe some regular or local travellers can answer. I am booked on the 1725 from Inverness to Glasgow Queen Street which is normally an HST - does anyone think First Class will be busy on a Tuesday (18th August)? The fare difference at the...
