There can't be many electric services that use the slow lines between York and Northallerton.
There's also a siding near Northallerton which is electrified; I sometimes see a track machine in it, but sadly never an electric loco.
This just in, at the Cranks' Newsdesk!
Route learner has left Mossend two hours late, just passed Wishaw.

Now it's showing as having been cancelled at Edinburgh. This is too dramatic for me, I'll have to have a lie down...

Assuming the comments section hasn't been totally hijacked by rail enthusiasts, it's interesting to note many comments on uncomfortable, cramped rolling stock. Narrow seating and seats with no view get mentioned. We're often told by the TOCs and their apologists in the press, that passengers...
It's run southbound on Thursdays and northbound on Fridays for the last two weeks. It's down to run again this Thursday (14th). Arrives York at about 1615.

The weekend breakfast offering isn't spectacular, is it?
I did Newcastle-London on Saturday morning, and you get two of the smallest rolls I've ever seen. They came round a couple of times with biscuits, and there were plenty of hot and cold drinks.
You couldn't do without getting your...
When I was out photographing the Buffer Puffer railtour on Saturday, I noticed that the Chingford services were a mix of 315s and 317s. Is that usual for a Saturday, or is it because there was engineering works on affecting the Hertford service?
The DRS flask train from Seaton-on-Tees runs on a Friday at the moment, eastbound in the morning around nine-ish, westbound in the afternoon around three or four o'clock.
Re-doubling was apparently on the cards around 2006, but seems to have been dropped as there has been no sign of any work starting.
To me, there seemed to be difficulties with the idea of running the oil tanks over a doubled Metro line. At the Pelaw end, I imagine that a train of empties...
There was a Mark 1 MLV as well, resembling the ones on the Southern.

From your helpful links, I've just noticed a difference I hadn't noticed before - the bodyside of the Class 85 curves inwards at the bottom (sometimes heard this referrred to as "tumblehome") whereas the 81's bodyside does not, except around the cab.
81s and 85s do look awfully similar. There are three things that I've noticed that are different about them at a glance:
First, the row of windows (on one bodyside) and row of grilles (on the other) are recessed in a sort of "strip" on the 85s. They are not recessed on the 81s. This is most...
If the 139 had to be fitted with an accessible toilet, it would effectively become a mobile superloo, wouldn't it? It could tour the country, visiting stations which have no toilet facilities. I can imagine the announcements: "The toilet now standing on platform 2 is for...."

The DfT appear to have published some new figures on the services which are the most overcrowded, ranked according to percentage over capacity.
The survey was done in Autumn 2011, so I don't know why it's taken...
