It showed me the £10 and £30 fares without me being signed in, although it doesn't if you don't use the link provided.
There wasn't much availability on trains to London on weekdays. If there aren't any that day for your destinations, the fares don't seem to visible either.
It's interesting that while Northern is regarded as a no-growth, high-subsidy backwater, with everyone's cast-off rolling stock, it provides the bulk of urban local rail services in Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, and a proportion of them in Liverpool and Newcastle. These are not...
South Hylton - Pelaw by EM2 is my ultimate fantasy railtour. You'd probably have to shut the rest of the system to do it, but I'm sure the regular passengers won't mind, it's in a good cause.
This is one in the eye for all those HST-bashers, isn't it? They'll not be so full of their "148mph diesel record", and "4500hp", and "past Valenta glories", when they're reminded of the puny six-slice toaster!
Looks like the extra Durham Coast Grand Central services M-F are:
Kings Cross 1121 Arr Hartlepool 1423
Hartlepool 1447 Arr Kings Cross 1811.
I wonder where they'll stable for those 24 minutes?
Interesting responses on the children-sitting issue. It illustrates how attitudes have changed over time. I recall the reasoning for children giving up seats being not just about elderly passengers, etc. but also being hierarchical: they were children, not adults, and children were expected to...
On Northern's 156s, what is that blue/green cloth thing that runs along the underside of the luggage racks!? They're revolting - I imagine that if I touched it, goo would ooze out of it.
Someone should really go over Northern's surfaces with a damp cloth. I don't know what Kim and Aggie would...
On my occasional trips, I'd noticed, over time, that York station on a Saturday afternoon/evening seemed to be becoming more and more, well, lively.
More and more tipsy people, more and more stag and hen parties, more of that ear-splitting whooping laugh that only middle-aged women seem to...
You've basically just described gen groups. I do inappropriate things with my camera when my co-conspirators mention the flasks are heading up the Durham coast. I fear one day the police will mistake my camera for a RPG.
I haven't heard any reports of it running this week. Last week when I saw it, it did Carlisle - Middlesbrough on Monday evening, and Middlesbrough to Carlisle on Tuesday evening.
317s replaced by 319s on the Bed-Pan line.
317s then replaced again by 321s on the WCML.
143s replaced by 142s in the North East
150s replaced by 156s, replaced by 158s on the North Trans-Pennine.
They might make some money selling new tickets to passengers who have bought a ticket from Leeds to York, from XC's website, based on a headline fare in a XC advert, and who foolishly thought it would be valid on a XC train from Leeds to York.
Well, I hope those horses don't think they are going to escape justice again.
In the same vein as the XC advert, I caught a glimpse of a TV advert for Northern last night, advertising cheap fares available on its website, and like XC, none of those promoted were for its own services (although...
Loop services do a bit of this too. I recall in the last days of the slammers on SWT I did the whole Kingston loop on a CEP+CIG, and train started out shown on the platforms as destination 'Kingston', by Richmond it was showing as 'Wimbledon', and by Kingston it was going to 'London Waterloo'. I...
I wonder if a couple should be used on Northern's Newcastle - Morpeth/Chathill services. It would mean some timetable changes, because some Morpeths work through to the MetroCentre, but it might be worthwhile if it frees up a couple of 142s for strengthening servies elsewhere.
East Coast have sent me an e-mail today saying they've released 50,000 "great value" advance fares for travel over the next five weekends.
Unfortunately I can't find any of them, unless they're all expensive great value fares....
