Can we even be sure that passenger behaviour is the reason behind there being no late trains? There are later trains on a weekday from Newcastle - do Friday nights not have similar issues? Maybe NR just want the lines clear early on a Saturday, to fit in any engineering work?

Try putting "Parton North Jn", and the date you're interested in, as a search term in the "Advanced" tab of www.realtimetrains.co.uk. That will show you what is down in the working timetable. On the date itself, this will also show you if those trains are running or not.
