317s on the Chingford Branch

Lost somewhere within Bank-Monument tube station,
I know the Chingford-Liverpool Street service is normally operated with 315s, but I occasionally see 317s on the route. Are these actually allocated/used on the Chingford services, or are they just heading to and from the sidings at Chingford. It definitely seems a more common occurance at weekends.
