Previously, I posted about Loading Gauge upgrades associated with the Transpennine Route Upgrade (here), which came via an FOI request.
Within the FOI they mentioned a separate W12 upgrade project. The response from that FOI indicated the results below, but please take these with a pinch of...
Hello,
Do routes that are currently have electrification being built still bring W10 improvements?
Context
The reason I ask is that I saw a YouTube video about Gascoigne Wood Interchange having access to key ports and other areas, but there's barely any W10 for those high-cube containers...
Hi all, what would peoples thoughts be about building a new station on the north side of Northallerton, whilst building a new platform 3 & 4 next the existing station car park?
They have built possibly nearly 1000 homes in the area in the last few years (more incoming), there's no bus services...
I was wondering what impact level crossings have on line speeds.
If you had the funding, which lines would you choose to close all the level crossings where you think would have a greatest impact? Also, what techniques would you use? Bridges, road diversions, wildlife crossings, cuttings (if...
As the title suggests, which junctions that are not already grade separated would you do?
What are your top three junctions?
My top three are:
-Manchester Piccadilly (Adwick Ardwick Jn - somehow)
-Micklefield Jn with some track realignment (flyover) - just because of the Transpennine Route...
I've created an interactive loading gauge tool but I'm struggling to find coordinates for GA, GB, GB+, GC. Can anybody please point me in the right direction?
I've also noticed than W9, W10 and W12 gauges start at different heights. Is that normal? Do they fit in the wagon differently, even if...
Hi all,
What timetabling tools are available that can support PEX/PIF files please? It is purely for educational purposes and play around with creating PEX files. I would like to know if they support imported PEX files without timings or other information that isn't known yet i.e. headcode...
It's no surprise that HS2 later phases have been scrapped to just be London to Birmingham - which everyone said it would be anyway...
Do you think if the government put a referendum out there to continue the northern sections of HS2, would people vote for it?
Hello, do anyone please know the gradients for the sidings within the Felixstowe port and Trafford Park please? I have the gradients the track leading up to the sidings but not the sidings themselves.
Is it safe to assume the sidings themselves would be flat?
Thank you.
I have a tool that allows you to dynamically overlay the profiles of each loading gauge on top of each other, and I am wondering if anyone has any feedback please? i.e. what can be done better? what is missing? etc.
I'm also sharing it as you may find it helpful to see how each loading gauge...
Hi all,
I thought I would share that there's been a lot of W12 gauge clearances particularly on the WCML, from a W12 permanent gauge certificate. Before and After below.
Hi all, I've noticed that the railways require a different type of insurance. Does anyone have a good recommendation please?
It will be for software development purposes on the planning side and not for any hardware infrastructure, rolling stock or any else otherwise.
Thank you.
Do freight operations often run double-headed trains and are there situations where a consist would have 2x Class 66 leading locomotives with only the front one powered? Empty returns maybe?
And how many are usually Top & Tail (locomotive at the front and back)?
In the nightly feeds and TPS, each schedule has a timing load associated with a schedule i.e. 1600.
For freight schedules: Does anyone know if that is the weight of the full train (inc. loco and wagons) or just the trailing weight that the locomotive(s) is pulling, or something else entirely...
Is there any good sources on how NR calculate curves of tracks, methodology and any diagrams/books that highlight the curves as well please?
My hope is to add the ability on my routing tool to show all the curvatures/bends along the entire route.
A possible alternative, which could work, would...
I was kindly given the latest gauge certificates, which shows a lot of new W10 & W12, and some W9 in Scotland. There's also a few restrictions removed elsewhere in the country.
Thought I would share the latest map (bit's in green)

I'm looking at the track (screenshot below) at Ferryhill South Jn and I'm trying to determine if that track is bi-directional or not. Does anyone know please?
I've tried looking in:
