I'm planning a day trip to Oxford this week and was trying to use the First Great Western site to find possible split tickets. It offers various low prices that are not valid on any trains. Can anyone suggest possible splits?
I can travel early 5/6am and might be doing more of these journeys...
perhaps he 'phones up an RPI mate who gets on further down who gets some easy collars :)
I do try to get any excesses done at the Paddinton ticket office, but a Friday afternoon with a rugby international in Cardiff the next day isn't a good time. I have got the exact same excess done on the...
I didn't get another ticket. I waited for the next South Wales train and spoke to the TM when he opened the doors and he just said it is was ok and jump on. I offered to pay when he came round but he again said no it's ok.
Fair play to him and I won't complain about the earlier one, because of...
Even longer queues if there is a Wales home rugby match on the Saturday :)
I expect the later trains to be full of Irish supporters.

Spoke to Train manager BEFORE getting on train and he said yes he would excess.
On train he said it would be...
I have a super off peak return, Abergavenny to Paddington and i have used the Outward part.
Can I excess the return (PAD-AGV) from super off peak to off-peak?
If yes how much will it be?
Suoer off peak return is £65 and off peak return is £81.50 (I think)
If i can't excess what would...
Got off at Reading and back on after speaking to the train manager who says travel to Bristol and change there because he knows of no reason that there would be a train to South Wales from Reading except the ones from Paddington.
Glad I didn't ask man at gateline about paying on train :)
I am going from Paddington to Abergavenny (maybe). Told (by that infamous man on the gateline) to get the 15.00 Bristol TM and change at Reading because there are other trains to South Wales. I'm not sure I believe this and can't find anything online. Could anyone supply better information...
It seems there is a fatality at Cholsey affecting trains through there. It is sad and not the fault of any TOC. I will be on the train at Reading until we begin our journey again, without complaint.
Perhaps others reading this can vary their journey, or could be advised of alternative routes...
Newport, Gwent. Water always leaking through the various canopies when it rains and uneven surfaces on the platforms. The new parts have leaks too.
The cafe is at the opposite end of the island platform to the station entrance and so is the waiting room, meaning most people have to wait on...
I just assumed they were both strict liability offences of not having a valid ticket.
I think they get their chance to pay and if they refuse, or become abusive, it is time for BTP.
I was amused at him wasting his time. Anyone who was split ticketing can't really claim they don't know the rules and deserves anything they get if they stay on the train without permission, so they don't need to be told. Coming down the train to check I'm getting off and then going to open the...
They told the guard that they couldn't find their tickets.

Yes, they were pensioners, while the group were late 20s.

I'm not sure what discretion in the first case, as they had to buy new tickets...
I was travelling on a train earlier this week when two ticket incidents happened in a short space of time.
1. a couple didn't have their advance tickets, but had a letter/printout which was read by the guard and he let them travel.
2. a group of 4 were travelling on the wrong train for...
It's a Paddington to Newport, but I want to go to Abergavenny.
Done now. I had over 10 minutes wait at Newport and a helpful person at Newport did it for me. He also said any of the staff I'd seen before could have done it, but chose not to.
I had a month of validity to get my ticket zero...
I am currently having difficulty getting a return ticket zero excessed. I have a super off peak return to Newport(Gwent), but I would like to go to Abergavenny. Ticket office staff at Paddington and Newport have refused to excess the ticket and another said thr RSP(???) system wouldn't let him...
The big problem is when I read some of the threads on here where people get more than hassle during legitimate journeys.
If I make a mistake with my costings I can't go back after a client has agreed the price and demand more money. If I buy something on offer at Tescos they can't come round...
