Hereford/Abergavenny - Oxford

I'm planning a day trip to Oxford this week and was trying to use the First Great Western site to find possible split tickets. It offers various low prices that are not valid on any trains. Can anyone suggest possible splits?
I can travel early 5/6am and might be doing more of these journeys, so i could buy a network card if that reduces the price.

Also what would be the best ticket site to use when looking for splits? The FGW site changed and is very difficult to use.

A Hereford - Oxford CDR is £21.40.

There is a Hereford - Moreton-In-Marsh £3.50 super-off-peak day return, but it's only valid after 6pm.

You can search splits on http://trainscanbecheaper.info/ In some cases they are impractical however. In this case there aren't any.

A Network Railcard is valid from Worcester, so splitting there will be of use if you decide to get one. Otherwise, fares via Evesham are relatively good for the distance and won't be beaten with simple splits.

Travel via Newport will benefit from splitting, but even so will probably be more than the Cotswold line. There are Advances on this route though (none on the Cotswold line), which may be what you were seeing greyed out on the FGW site.

Also note that you get a third off on off-peak fares between Worcester and Oxford with a Cotswold railcard, which is only £7.50. This could pay for itself if you make a second day trip to Oxford
