    Am I allowed this journey?

I have another spate of journeys from Hereford/Abergavenny to Paddington coming up over the next couple of months and have been playing with the FGW ticket page to look at prices. I noticed that following a strange route I can get a cheaper ticket and wondered if I would be allowed to use it...

20:15 Paddington to Swansea, why late?

We had taxis. No announcement about the delay and no announcement about arrangements. The announcements actually went from: we are approching X please remember to take etc etc to we are approaching X --- old post above --- --- new post below --- They do sometimes, it depends on who...

20:15 Paddington to Swansea, why late?

How do guards/drivers find out about other delays? Perhaps he should have noticed we are late and telephoned FGW to organise something for passengers going on the Hereford line? Then he could tell us? Perhaps the connecting train won't be held at Newport, there won't be taxis available...

    19:15 from Paddington

Yes a very helpful FGW guard explained this to me a few years ago when I asked him why he was checking who had connections at Newport and where they were going. He didn't say it directly but implied there was a financial aspect somewhere. No I don't think it does officially. I did get told...

    19:15 from Paddington

Ok, fair enough, it isn't required, but most of the guards on that route let the passengers know what's going on, sometimes counting up how many have connections and 'phoning up to find out if trains will be held. I've even seen guards lend mobiles to passengers to call relatives. In 9 years...

    luggage on seats !!

I got on a nearly full train a couple of weeks ago and as normal just try to grab the first available seat. I asked a woman if the seat next to her was free but she said it was occupied, so I moved down a litlle and got the next one. More people come along and ask her the same thing and get the...

    19:15 from Paddington

Staff problems: 1 FGW guard not notifying passengers that the train was running late and why. he also could have told people that some connections could/would be missed. I don't know what announcements guards are supposed to make but I have travelled on FGW on that route for enough years to...

    19:15 from Paddington

A slightly long tale, but highlighting some rail staff problems. I had the unfortunate experience of chatching the 19:15 from Paddington to Swansea last night. Not ever my favorite train because it will be standing room only unless you get there early. I got there at 19:10 and instead of...

    Hereford - Paddington query

Just a quick update. There was a change of plan and I needed to make my first trip earlier than I planned. I booked the £48 ticket online and printed the itinerary, various web pages showing the booking procedure etc. The ATW guard did query the route, but I showed the printouts and he was ok...

    Hereford - Paddington query

I had to visit a customer this afternoon, so popped into a station on the way back. Could I book the tickets, with reservations and matching itinerary printout? 'Yes' I was told. 'Do I pay £48 or £74?' '£48 is cheaper, that's what I'd buy' 'Is it a valid ticket, or some sort of...

    Hereford - Paddington query

Why would the FGW system allow me to buy tickets and print an itinery to go with the tickets, showing change at Newport and that route be invalid? Is it worth me booking tickets and printing the itinery showing the route to take with me? thanks Sean --- old post above --- --- new post...

    Hereford - Paddington query

I wonder if someone could clarify something odd I've found when looking at fares and routes on FGW's booking site. I want to go Hereford to Paddington and return on 15th September. 11.35 from Hereford and 19.15 return would seem to be the most suitable. Two off peaks are shown at £48 and £74...
