I'm on the 09:30 of Edinburgh.
We just passed through Grantshouse as we approached each pylon for the overhead wires, there were alarms going off. Any ideas what these are for and why they were going off?
Don't know if I'm in the right place here, but whilst browsing in Waterstones yesterday for presents for you know what, there were reprinted copies of Bradshaws for £10
Not bad if you are happy not to have an original
Was travelling Edinburgh- Newcastle this evening, there was a broken down 91 just north of Berwick (next to Magdalene Fields Golf Club), Thunderbird in attendance.
Obviously trains were stopped and slowed in the area and werre more frequent going north (being as they were all delayed)...
Don't know if this is the correct part of the forum to be putting this, but I was at Glasgow Central on saturday and had a meal from Burger King in the station.
I flashed my (shiny new whole) bite card, but received no discount.
Have burger king stopped accepting bite cards or are they...
What has happened to the .ics file you used to get with your booking confirmation email from East Coast.
I made my first booking yesterday since their website was revamped and I didn't get one.
Normally, when the file hasn't been attached to the email, you can go to the full details part of...
East Coast's latest newsletter say that from September 2012 they're updating the machines and you'll need the credit/ debit card used to make the booking and the 8 figure booking reference to get your tickets out of the machine.
Isn't that already the case? I've not been able to get tickets...
Watching Rory McGrath's Best of British Engineering this afternoon, with the segment about Mallard, they mentioned the non- stop journey to Scotland from London.
Obviously I've seen in more detailed programmes the water troughs that used to replenish the water tank in steam engines.
What I'd...
This has probably been discussed elsewhere through the fullness of time, but I've been thinking after viewing Pinzac's flikr photos of stations and lines that closed after Beeching.
With the proliferation of stations and lines now reopening, could it not have been feasible for the government...
While the engineering works north of Newcastle go ahead, you'll all know that East Coast divert their services via Carlisle.
Question is, what happens to the regular services that would have normally used the WCML from Carlisle to Carstairs? do the other TOC's drop services etc?
As the above suggests, I have an ipod touch.
Whenever I'm on East Coast, since they introduced the pay as you go structure for wifi, I have only been able to connect once (I travel via East Coast at least every other weekend, so I have a fair number of journeys where I have been unable to...
Saw the above unit at Haymarket last night, on the rear of the 20:42 to Aberdeen.
It's painted/ vinyl'd (is that a word? haha) in the similar scheme to their class 91's and to be honest, I thought it looked bloody awful.
Why was this one done in this scheme, and is it the only one of the...
I was at the above station last week, returning from holiday and when I was moving from the platform to the main concourse to await my connection, I was looking at the hydraulic buffers at the end of each track.
It got me thinking, what is the highest speed those buffers could stop a train...
Does anyone know if there's a site out there that you can input your rail journey details and it will show them all on a map, showing how much of the UK rail map you've covered?
I'm sure I read about something like that on here ages ago, before I was a member, or was I just dreaming it? :D
Coming home from Edinburgh yesterday, as we passed Craigentinny, I saw in a far corner what appeared to be an HST unit.
Nothing untoward you might say, but it appeared to be still in GNER blue livery.
Can anyone confirm this is the case and if so, which unit is it?
Thanks in advance!
Just a quick note to the above, if they're here, to thank the lady very much that allowed me through the gates onto the northbound platform to let me see off my partner when she went home to Edinburgh this afternoon.
It was very much appreciated :D
Not sure if this is the correct forum to be osting this, but this has been niggling me for weeks now.....
Does anyone know why the Gresley A4 Pacifics were different colours, ie, blue (Mallard & Sir Nigel Gresley), green (Union of Souyh Africa) etc
There's probably a really simple raeson...
On the way to see the other half for the weekend, passing through Craigentinny, there was a Grand Central HST (full train) in the sidings.
Any ideas as to why it was there, being so far away from it's operation area.
Also, an East Coast HST power car that seemed to have no engine and was in...
