Durham Ticket Barrier Attendants

Just a quick note to the above, if they're here, to thank the lady very much that allowed me through the gates onto the northbound platform to let me see off my partner when she went home to Edinburgh this afternoon.
It was very much appreciated

They are generally quite a nice bunch on the gates at Durham, to give credit where it's due. I always found them to be cheerful, even at a time in the morning where I was incapable of being remotely happy myself!

My wife travels once a month from Manchester Airport to Durham for puposes of committee work and says that Durham is a most welcoming station to use. She has never any trouble and still remembers the station staff who helped her board the train when she had to bring back a large folio of documents and drawings from a previous "year-end" meeting.

Woman at Kings + this evening let me through to see someone off. I say let me through, I just pointed at the person in front with my umbrella and she didn't say anything.

Only once have I ever had trouble with barriers not allowing me to see someone off or have someone else come with me when I was travelling and fortunately in that case they had another ticket which they showed to gain access. Not complaining as it is a bit unreasonable to prevent people from seeing others off/meet them but it kind of makes you wonder what the point of barriers is, unless I just have a trustworthy face

This seems to be a trend with EC staff as I've never been refused access to the platforms at Grantham to see someone off or meet someone. The staff there have always been welcoming and helpful.

I thought that staff were obliged by the rules to let you through the barriers to assist/meet someone who is travelling. I am sure someone has posted on here the exact wording from the rulebook. I have never had trouble getting on to a platform to meet someone.

I remember at onetime the barrier staff at Temple Meads were a pain and wanted people to buy tickets to one of the stations just outside the City.
