Afternoon,
I'm thinking of going to Huddersfield on Saturday. I can drive to a station near Chester, as long as I can park - wondered what the cheapest way would be...? Splitting via Manchester?
So Chester to Huddersfield - ideally not using an Advance ticket. £30 seems a bit steep...
Wonderful - just that one fact (I had no idea you could go advance from Leeds to Chester), has saved us £26. Thank you very much everyone! That's a wrap!
Much appreciated Tony.
Hello guys,
I'm trying to solve this one - I'm picking a friend up from any of the following stations: Shrewsbury, Chester, Crewe, Caersws. We're flexible (or any other near by). I'm trying to get the cheapest ticket from Skipton to one of these destinations.
It's looking like
Skipton...
If I am likely to incur a delay of, say, an hour because a member of London Midlands' train crew is not available, am I allowed to use my, admittedly dirt cheap, ticket on a Virgin service?
At times of disruption it's normally anything goes, regardless of who's fault it is (so if a train breaks...
Thanks - but presumably this is all upto date in the NRenquiries and LM's own online ticket system? Does it mean it'll be really busy?

Oh! I looked at the scheduled trains and thought "2h 38m, that seems reasonable, 3hr 14 on the way back's not...
Hi friends,
After the huge hit a few weeks ago of my "lame plug socket question" (see http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=75887&highlight=plug+socket), I thought I'd bring it back for a Christmas Special.
Planning to catch a London Midland train from Crewe to London (around Noon...
Hello everybody.
I don't mind the pedants - as someone points out, you don't pay for the answers and (some) people surprise me on here with their generosity - being helpful, free of charge! I try and be polite here, because on now countless occasions I've had answers to questions swiftly and...
Ha - Well, I can only apologise for my technical faux pas. I've let myself down and the forum down.
In the past, there have been some decent ish trains that I have been on. You guys will know the class numbers far better than I will on that line - but I wondered if there was any way of working...
In my experience of these Highland line trains, giant sections of carriages can be booked by OAP style coach trips. I have often jumped on one at 11am thinking I'll be the only person on there, to find myself wedged between 60 OAP's on a daytrip as part of their autumn gold 5 day mega break.
Hello guys,
So I'm on the 8:41 Wrexham to Shrewsbury tomorrow, then the 09:30 Shrewsbury to Birmingham.
Then the 17:23 Birmingham to Wrexham.
How can I work out whether these will be decent quality trains, with plug sockets at table seats? Would be useful as I'll have my laptop!
Such...
Also potentially slower services from Birmingham/Manchester as they realise it's very profitable to stop at Milton Keynes more often and continue offering a cheaper ticket as Virgin I think do at the moment.
So here's what I'm reading into this. Bad news for Lake District customers, this 15 minute improvement in journey times between London and Glasgow I wwould guess means far less direct services to London from, say, Oxenholme.
Hello guys,
Was thinking about having a run to Mallaig, Oban, maybe Kyle of Lochalsh etc - but with this amazing weather, I was wondering whether the trains could be very hot?
Do these Scotrail units have aircon - or is that wishful thinking!!?
Thanks,
James
As a resident who used the service, let me tell you my thought on why it died. It was big at the weekends, people used it to go to Wolverhampton from Wrexham and maybe change to Birmingham, or people from Shrewsbury used it to get to London etc etc. At the weekends, you mind less about the...
Hi guys,
I'm likely to be using the WCML tomorrow. Travelling from Crewe at 9 and back at about 6. Looking at the Met Office warnings for snow (currently at AMBER) and also of course the derailment problems so far today, it's tempting to cancel.
I suspect I won't be able to get a full...
Chaps,
Can I apologise for posting a ridiculously vague question last week, I have a friend who wanted some advice about getting a cheaper ticket and I've managed to get a much more detailed scenario for you.
She wants to try and reduce the cost of her journeys from Watford to Harlow...
Hi guys,
I'm looking for cheaper ways of getting from Watford Junction to Harlow two or three times a week. I'd be interested in off peak and on peak options. Are there any splitting methods or things I might not be aware of to make the journey cheaper?
Many thanks,
James
