Quick question. Travelling between Bristol and Cheltenham tomorrow. Is the weekend first £5 per journey? Can't seem to find the information on their website.

I too loathe XC in general, and in particular, the voyagers. 4 coach trains for intercity travel (and it's basically only 2.5 coaches as one's first class and the vestibules are enormous) is ludicrous. The trains are cramped and noisy, and the electronic reservations mean you spend ages waiting...

Bristol to Chepstow. 1 hour 26 on the train. Less than an hour on the bus, and there's one bus a day that does it in 30 minutes.

Would agree with the consensus - the catering is dreadful. Used to take the train down to Exeter and Taunton on cheap first class fares. On an HST the trolley often never appears in the whole journey (even down to Newton Abbot I've never seen the damn thing). Invariably now I drive.

Looks good value to me. Have used the travelling chef on many journeys and thought it was excellent - £8 for a decent sized breakfast using quality ingredients and freshly prepared is hard to argue with.

Rang them up. They said that if the voucher was issued for compensation, they'd renew it (albeit only on a one-off basis - i.e. you only get to do this once). If it's a goodwill gesture, then no renewal. I couldn't remember which it was, but they looked it up and it was a goodwill voucher, so...

I've got a voucher which expires on Thursday, and I won't be travelling via rail before then. Do TOCs reissue expired vouchers upon request? The firm in question is FGW. I could book a journey I'm likely to make in a month or two, but I'd rather save it for a journey I'm certain to make.

£200 million a year in lost revenue from fare dodgers. I wonder how much extra they get by Ticket Offices selling unnecessarily expensive tickets, or people panicking and buying a more expensive ticket than they need.

Had an entire FGW HST to myself last year! Last train back from Worcester to Bristol, but due to engineering works it had to divert via Swindon, then reverse back! Took about 2 hours so no one was on it, the Guard kindly invited me to sit in First Class.
