Haddenham (HDM) to Plumpton (PMP)

Hello,

Would appreciate a little advice from the Fares Sages.

Need to travel from Haddenham (HDM) to Plumpton (PMP), tomorrow. Must arrive at 11:44am. Returning after 4pm.

Young Persons Railcard.

Best I can manage is the anytime day return at £31.10.

Tried splitting and trying to get an off-peak return from half way along the journey but no joy.

Can anyone do any better?

I can't see any way of reducing that without a hell of a lot of risk. The train you have to get first is the one which scuppers you. If you could leave it until the one half an hour later then you'd get off-peak all the way. Trouble is, that only allows 19 minutes to get from Marylebone to Victoria, and even with cross-platform interchange at Oxford Circus between the Bakerloo and Victoria lines the TfL journey planner reckons it will take 14 minutes tube platform to tube platform. You'll never make it, basically.

Strange that the fare from Haddenham to East Croydon is £3 cheaper than Haddenham to Marylebone. :roll:

To do it in a more roundabout fashion:

Haddenham & Thame Parkway - Princes Risborough
Route Any Permitted
Anytime Day Return
£2.90
(No Y-P discount due to minimum fare)

Princes Risborough - East Croydon
Route +Any Permitted
Off-Peak Day Return
£12.85 Y-P

East Croydon - Plumpton
Route Any Permitted
Off-Peak Day Return
£8.90 Y-P

Total: £24.65

This allows you to do:
Haddenham (0739d) - CH 1H11 - Princes Risborough (0746a)
Princes Risborough (0816d) - CH 2A10 - Aylesbury (0837a)
Aylesbury (0902d) - CH 2C21 - London Marylebone (1005a)
Tube Transfer
London Victoria (1047d) - SN 1F16 - Plumpton (1144a)

However this takes much longer and the connection between Marylebone and Victoria is not an official connection, although it can easily be made with a cross-platform change at Oxford Circus.

Whether the saving is worth it is up to you to decide.

Edit: Oops, just saw the date of travel. Anyhow it might be useful next time.
