Luton - Milton Keynes tomorrow - clerk refused to sell ticket

I assume you're travelling pre-0930, as if you have a DSB Railcard then you probably also hold a ENCTS buss pass which allows free travel after this time?

How Many train crew is there normally on a train?

My Virgin Train yesterday had had 8 - 4 First Class hots, a chef, a TM, a shop staff and driver.

Assisted travel - do you tip?

I've been told on good authority that Network Rail buggy driver assistance staff at a certain large London terminal fight over each other to get the 'desirable jobs' - assisting the elderly who are more likely to tip them than the disabled. Might explain why one driver recently thumped another...

    1530 Euston to Glasgow today

Glad my northbound peak VT wasn't too delayed due to this. Been advised the above train with c300 Std and c60 1st is stationery at Polesworth, just north of Nuneaton due to vandalism. Passengers are being transferred to a train on the adjacent line via a ramp...

    New Ticket Design Launched

I collected an Anytime ticket from an EMT collection TVM earlier, and the ticket came out in the new design. Must have changed today as yesterday I had the old design. Not overly impressed with the smaller text, which will be a problem for visually impaired customers. The lack of publicity in...

Liverpool Lime Street to London Euston, First Class?

Specifying via Chester, there's a 1st Advance for £45.20 on the 0843 Merserail from Lime St, with an 8 min connection at Chester onto the 0935 VT Voyager. This starts at Chester so shouldn't be overly busy in 1st, although it'll probably get cosier at Crewe and Milton Keynes. You'll get a...

    Markey Harborough Platforms

I was told a while back by station staff that as part of the MML electrification, the track would be rebuilt across the existing car park, straightening the curve into the station. Hopefully this will rectify the existing large gap as well as being able to board/alight all carriages of a HST.

Got an email from RSH, stating the £1 fee will be introduced shortly:

Evening trip London to Leicester, splits

Oh dear, tannedfrog, did you get any hassle at St Pancras barriers on the return?

    Special Offers Discussion

Last time I had a similar offer from Virgin, the promotion only applied to Virgin services only. Indeed, the T&Cs states 'selected' journeys.

    Special Offers Discussion

Also received this late summer offer email. Unlike previously, the offer isn't available directly via the EMT website but by invitation only. Note you have to book via the unique link in the email in order to be prompted to enter the Pin code after the 'Shopping basket' page.

Bank Holiday Chaos and Ticket Validity

Virgin are stopping the hourly Liverpools at Nuneaton and Leicester has 4 tph to St Pancras. Try to get the xx59 HST from Nottingham which should be less cosier than the Sheffield services. The only problem you may have is boarding an already busy 2 car XC 170 at Nuneaton!

    WCML woes (11/08/14)

Currently stuck on a Birmingham VT at Apsley due to a London Midland ahead with brake problems. Almost an hr late. Oh what fun with only two tracks open right now.

    "All change please, all change."

'Birmingham New St, this is Birmingham New St'. Not sure if Digital Dave still plays that there but I'm sure it drove the station staff mad given its repetitive nature!

SW London to Slough - Request for Route/Fares advice

I do PAD-SLO often to get to Windsor. Never a journey I look forward to despite always travelling First Class, especially in the pm peak when 'fast trains' constitute a comfy free-for-all Turbo (my fave are the 1712 Henley and 1742 Bourne End). Mind, you're commuting against the flow, so as...

    Twyford lightning strike

Got to Paddington at 5pm intending to go to Windsor. Never seen the First Class lounge so busy - many seemed to be drowning their sorrows with a few glasses of wine. In the end, I got a HEX to T5 and was met there. Thankfully, I got a ride in the assistance buggy - navigating through the...

    EMT strike

Presumably, EMT will have fewer HSTs to work with during this period? Cramming a HST load of passengers onto a 4/5 car Meridian will be fun especially if it's the 075x or 0829 from Bedford!

    Special Offers Discussion

Well at least it's not at East Midlandds Parkway for a change. Haven't noticed any EMT promotions on their mainline recently, at least not on their website. They usually run offers at this time of year.

    Late reservations of seats

Goto the Network Rail mobility reception on platform 1, next to the ticket office. You need to book with Passenger Assist by 6pm the day before in order for it to be 'guaranteed'. The buggy takes you to your carriage and avoids the scrum on the concourse - if you arrive within 30 mins of...

    Special Offers Discussion

Received an email from Virgin thanking me for my patience during the recent Watford blockade and offering £10 off their Advance fares with a min spend of £35, to be booked by end of June. Offer is email-specific with a unique PIN. May be worth checking email folders if you've subscribed to...
