Is the regular Intercity train to Amsterdam the Thalys service? The 2 Standard Premier tickets prohibit travel on Thalys. Our Eurostar arrives Midi at 16:08. The Belgian rail site showed a fast 16:50 to Antwerp Central taking 45 minutes. As 3 of us are...
Hoping for some help.
I've booked Standard Premier singles on Eurostar for a party of 4 to Brussels Midi on 7 July on the 12:58 arriving 16:08. 2 blind members of the group can travel to any Belgian station free. The other 2 "Companion" tickets only allow travel to Midi.
So I'm looking...
Thanks. They're traveling next Weds. I've found some EMT ticket office staff to be rather reluctant to do excesses so wondered if this was possible, as they're traveling off peak both ways at non fixed times and would prefer 1st.
A friend has a Standard Anytime Return ticket from St Pancras to Kettering at £101.50. Can the entire ticket be excessed before travel to a slightly cheaper First Off Peak Return at £98.50?
Thanks Neil. Grateful for a definitive answer. They would prefer to excess to the First Super Off Peak return if possible before travel tomorrow. EMT Customer Services say only a like-for-like upgrade is possible i.e to a First Off Peak return only.
A friend has an Off Peak Return from Leicester to St Pancras at £86.50.
Can the entire ticket be excessed before travel to a First Class Super Off Peak Return (£99) or a First Class Off Peak Return (£126)?
The Off Peak Return is Route Any Permitted but bizarrely the 2 First Class options are...
Indeed. Was meant to finish at midnight but still live. I've booked quite a few in First especially on the peak Holyheads and the 1630 Euston to Glasgow for a mere £35. Credit due to Virgin for saving me a few thousand on journeys I was planning to make in April at FOR rates!
Virgin Trains are now on Topcashback, and for the next 3 days are offering 3.03% cash back on all online bookings, plus Nectar points on Virgin journeys.
I've noticed a steady decline in the VTWC First Class service. Breakfast is still reasonable depending on crew - I find the early London-based crews are very attentive. After that, why do VT never change the rotation of their sandwich option which always seems to be the same (salmon)? The so...
I travelled on the same 10:44 train as her 2 years ago. The 10:44 is an 8 car with it splitting at Cambridge. Back then, the Royal party had the entire leading First Class compartment to themselves behind the driver. All other First pax including myself were instructed to sit in the rear...
If you can restrict to specific trains, there are some options.
Get an Anytime/Off Peak Day return from Leicester to Nuneaton. From there, there's plenty of LM £6.25 Advances to Liverpool between 0700-1000. Returning, the 1948 & 2048 fast VT offers a £5.60 Advance to Nuneaton.
Another option...
A friend paid a £10 admin fee to amend the date of travel on a First Advance ticket and was then given an excess coupon plus a new accompanying seat reservation. They now realise the new date is unsuitable. Question is, can the date of travel be amended again, presumably with another £10 fee?
All XC Turbostars from Leicester to Birmingham have a small 1st Class compartment with 9 seats (and power sockets which aren't available in Standard). The xx48s to Birmingham are reservable as they originate from Stansted Airport. The xx18s to Birmingham start at Leicester and are...
Couldn't find any cheap Advances from/to Leicester, but I've found another cheap option from Tamworth.
On the 13th, 0830 Tamworth - Glasgow Central 1317 via New Street is only £34.30 for 2 with Senior Railcards. On the 15th, 1508 Edinburgh Waverley - Tamworth 2000 with a change at Derby is...
One benefit of the through service is you can get terrific value First Advance fares on the Pendos, especially VWC+Connections.
On the downside, if timekeeping is really bad southbound, Virgin often run the train fast from Crewe to MKC via the Trent Valley - great as it gains time, but not so...
EMT offers 5 full breakfast services southbound, with a great range of options available. The cooked breakfast is more substantial than that offered on Virgin. Then again, these services often only offer First Anytime tickets.
The last time I was offered a light breakfast, it was a choice of...
Well, I'm pleased to report that most Virgin services on Mon 16 Feb are now reservable and have Advances available, although quite a few services remain restricted.
Mon 23 Feb still shows the engineering works timetable so all services remain restricted that day.
Virgin are hopeless - I...
Following the Watford blockade postponement, online booking sites now show the normal weekend and weekday service for Virgin services to/from Euston on 14/15/16 Feb & 2122/23 Feb. However, all services remain restricted and non-reservable, with no Advance fares loaded. Virgin now say they may...
I assume you must have got either the 0638 or 0741 from Sileby to Loughborough, where there is only a 4 & 5 minute wait before the EMT to Kettering across the platform - nowhere near enough time to get to the ticket office on the other side of the ticket barriers. The conductor on the Ivanhoe...
