Fare increases - folk don't like them

So what you are saying is that when the next breakdown of the fare structure is reported, it will reflect the relative reduction? I haven't seen it in the past. And you may not want to 'waste' any of your time about moaning about oil company profits; but they are some of the worst offenders -...

Fare increases - folk don't like them

Greenback...fares go up virtually every year at rates in order of magnitude of the comparative rise in earnings. How is that fair? How is this a good deal to this country?

Fare increases - folk don't like them

Ha! It's not as if the rail companies are rejecting the rises is it? Welcome to the 101 of how to increase your bottom line! Easy way for private rail firms to get that year-on-year increase in their profits that the world of business demands - by fleecing old Johnny who just needs to get to...

    Transatlantic Rail Tunnel?

How about building the tunnel and making it a vacuum with pressurised trains running...no air resistance - super duper fast speeds? To all the naysayers...it is a question of priorities. If profits from lets say extracting the world's resources was put towards projects of such a nature...

ECML - OHLE problems at Stevenage (17 & 18th December)

Boxing Day: Should there be scheduled trains?

Yeah I agree. Xmas and Boxing and perhaps New Years Day as well should carry the right to refuse work and if you want to work; be suitably paid for it, at least double and probably should be triple time. Or do we simply want to just let ourselves become drones to fulfilling some endless...

    Boycott of the railways

I'd suggest most fares are 'outrageous' or be it just marginally less than 'outrageous'. For the most, 'peak' fares are a rip-off. Public transport is not meant to be comparable to the car, it should be substantially cheaper...because its public transport. The pleasantness or whatever of...

    IEP setback

Remember the Class 91 pushed at 162mph in its record setter; granted it was probably short-formed but still, thats not 5 or 10mph over its design speed but 22. I mean they have done 125mph for 24 years or so, I am not a driver but it doesn't seem to me that they struggle to get there...

Trespasser "with a pitchfork" on the tracks in the Brockley area

Could you class DVTs as light still? I believe they had some recess in the floor filled up with concrete to add weight though.

    IEP setback

:D Railforums personnel seem to reguarly fall to a dose of sarcasm! Anyway, I have done Paddington to Reading on a FGW HST - only saw one of the carriages..one of the 'High Density Configuration' or whatever...cattle class, sardine configuration or perhaps poverty class I think would be more...

    IEP setback

Please... no, I've had nightmares about 395s being used on the ECML. The 395s do their job well enough; 1hr short trips to London but the thought of those rattly, plastic, cold (in nature) and bland things being used to run the premier service on the British Railways with 3 or 4 hour...

Well god forbid her for intruding into your life.

Patrick McLoughlin on Sunday Politics today

We simply should not see £100+ single standard fares on the rail network. £100 single from Manchester to London? Simply ridiculous. The train shouldn't be 'competing' with cars - it should provided a much cheaper alternative, but so often...not the case.

    Dockside Railways

Immingham surely? Don't know what they do at Grimsby nowadays, but I don't know whether there are lines in use. Trackwork or the remnants of are everywhere at the dockside though.

Calls for new Dawlish avoiding line

If thats the case, then planning costs are absurd. Surely theres not a great deal to plan if you are building over an old alignment; land which possibly is owned by the BRB / local council for fairly easy repossession?

    Changing trains....

Going to go with the Barton Line as well...although I have no idea of the rest of the network on the west side of the country so bit of a guess :)
