What stock will Doncaster to Cleethorpes get then...

My understanding of the dilemma is as follows... Chiltern railways is to get the Class 170s in 2015. As such a stock issue could arise (this is speculative) with the sheer mileage / time that the current Class 185s / Class 170s spend between Doncaster and Cleethorpes. Therefore, the DfT...

Should Network Rail run their own trains?

The law is a triviality that could easily be amended in Parliament.

What stock will Doncaster to Cleethorpes get then...

So...it appears that the powers that be are deciding (and most likely will decide) that Transpennine Express will not run trains between Cleethorpes to Doncaster (and onwards to Manchester Airport). As such, they propose that the current dogsbody stopping service between Doncaster and...

Should Network Rail run their own trains?

The government already run East Coast themselves through their firm 'Directly Operated Railways'. A very successful operation as all can agree. It is the mindless, dead philosophy of the market always being the 'most efficient' method to deliver goods and services that is perpetuating the...

Train Crash near Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

If somebody wanted to take the Morpeth curve at above the 50mph speed limit (which incidentally in a previous report said trains would likely overturn above 75mph?) what systems are in place that would stop the driver from doing so? (other than training etc.)

Which TOC has best and worst first class

East Coast best, Southeastern worst. But I guess as said, East Coast's stock has been designed to provide the first class 'experience' whereas Southeastern merely gives you a seat - one which is exactly the same as standard! I've often sat in 'first' with passengers on Southeastern in...

Taxpayers stump up £110,000,000 to keep EMT in profit

Its about taking some of the money from services that make a lot of money to provide the services that don't - but that are still used by some. I think it's the right thing to do because they are running a (supposedly) public service and the focus should be in providing this and not a...

Taxpayers stump up £110,000,000 to keep EMT in profit

In the name of providing a public service - where there is some demand. Its not about them not making any profit per-se, but rather just not attempting to maximise it through refusing to subsidise services with lower patronage with those services that make them their money.

Taxpayers stump up £110,000,000 to keep EMT in profit

It is wrong that the currently the tour de forces that run the bus services round this country will happily run the services that make them a good coin but will abandon those which don't. Where I live there were early and late buses for a route that perhaps have about 10 passengers per run...

Taxpayers stump up £110,000,000 to keep EMT in profit

The privatised railway has the motive to generate PROFIT rather than to run a service. They run to the rule of how much money a line makes for themselves rather than the bigger economic and social picture behind running a public transportation network. This profit is monies that is a leakage...

Landslip at Hatfield Colliery (near Doncaster) line to Hull/Scunthorpe now reopened.

You can reduce probably by at least 10 minutes? I was on the Brigg line train this saturday and we got to Gainsborough Central from Grimsby way 10 minutes earlier than the scheduled departure time.

Landslip at Hatfield Colliery (near Doncaster) line to Hull/Scunthorpe now reopened.

Yeah I think it is a batty idea. I mean, the Brigg line surely has to exist in part as a relief line to the Scunny to Barnetby section. The fact that such a large part of the electricity generation in this country is down to the fuels being transported from up the line to the trent power...

Landslip at Hatfield Colliery (near Doncaster) line to Hull/Scunthorpe now reopened.

Surely they wouldn't abandon the line? - the busiest freight line in the country (tonnage) and the important connection to the important town of Grimsby?? I mean.....14 miles of the selby diversion was built to bypass possible subsidence.

    Class 395 "ears"

The quality and feel of quality of lets say 395s vs MK4s is continents apart. Sad to see that we get this plasticy, rattley stock that is going to be on our railways for decades. I understand that its only used for short journeys, but even for an hour its not very pleasant. Who decided on the...
