I wanted start a general thread on the current state of Rail and Sail. My first question is who actually runs Rail and Sail, is it a grouping of the TOCs who operate it and ferry operators or a separate entity? I get the impression some companies take it more seriously than others. Some of the...
I've never understood why Translink couldn't get their act together and allow through tickets to be bought for combinations of trains and buses given that they are in a fairly unique situation of being one company controlling both.
This morning I noticed there is a 20mph restriction on all lines northbound (at least that's what I assume yellow signs with an R and number on mean). Is this because there will be engineering occurring on the line or something else?
I was on a XC Voyager in the Quiet Zone which had stickers up saying "Free WiFi - available on this coach", so i whipped out my phone and sure enough there it was. However, it tried to direct me to a log in page but instead I got an error about the train's connection with the outside world not...
There have been big problems this morning and 'until further notice' at Southampton Central due to over running Signaling works and now Signaling problems. Does anyone know what the Signaling work was this weekend and why it might have gone wrong?
Hello all,
I want to travel on the morning of Saturday the 14th of May from Basingstoke to Cambridge and return the following day, Sunday the 15th of May.
The best price I can find is about £40 with YP Railcard.
Anyone able to find a good split option? I believe there may be the added...
Today the live departure boards have been broken on and off since this afternoon. Does anyone know exactly what system is causing the problems? Also is this related to either the trainline's systems going down last week and the fact that LM, Southern and Southeasthern's websites are down today...
Just thought I'd let anyone caught up in the problems caused by emergency engineering work at Sway (Between Bornemouth and Brockenhurst) yesterday afternoon and evening that according to my train manager this was caused by a platform that was liable to collapse.
I have had a quick look for a similar thread but can't find one so here goes...
What changes are expected for the May 2011 timetable? The only thing I know of so far is the Chiltern changes for 90mins running to Birmingham.
Quick question, anyone know what all is happening at Eastleigh station? The footbridge has been completely covered outside and inside. It does leak like a sieve and is absolutely freezing, but what are they actually doing to it. I also notice that the waiting room / café on platform 2/3 is...
Standing in Romsey and a train of First Great Western Motorail carriages went past. I assume these are now used for car transportation by a freight company but surely they could have found the time to paint it since I believe it's been quite a few years since the end of the Motorail service.
A bit of a provocative title but thought I would parallel the 'Why does everyone hate XC' thread.
I was thinking to myself while reading the XC thread, there seems to be loads of bad jip against XC but why on these forums is there not the same hate for First.
Now let me clarify something...
I have a problem.
I lost my debit card last week and my bank are issuing me a new one. This was fine until I realised that I have 3 sets of tickets to collect from the Self-Service ticket machines.
As 2 of these orders were with theTrainLine I got in contact with them. After taking my...
Hello all,
I have been finding problems trying to find cheap tickets between Basingstoke and Lancaster lately. In the past it has been quite easy to find advanced tickets of some sort, even if they where at the expensive end of Advanced, or at least find some by doing a bit of ticket splitting...
The National Rail reservation system is down all of today and tomorrow morning for advanced tickets. I have read from thetrainline.com that this is to increase capacity, allow home printing of tickets, mobile phone tickets and other future applications.
Does anyone know anything more about what...
I have an annual season ticket (A Gold Card because I am in the South East of England (which for some reason means I am entitled to more than the rest of the country)) but there are a few things which confuse me about void days and compensation.
Am I correct in thinking that void days will be...
Imagine I have an advanced ticket from B to C but I am in A and have to get to B to start that journey, what happens if my A to B train is late / cancelled and I miss my B to C advanced ticket? Is my advanced ticket not honoured or can I proceed on a later train because of the previous delay? I...
I just found out about the Stenaline ferry move to a new facility at Cairnryan from their current dock at Stranraer (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/8509382.stm). Does anyone know if there are any plans to extend the rail link from Stranraer to up to Cairnryan? I suspect that the...
The more and more I book train tickets the more convinced that it is a complete mess I become. If hypothetically the following was done can anyone think of any downsides?
Ticket types:
ADVANCED OFF PEAK - The base ticket price based on distance (not linearly but so that short distances...
Sorry to ask such a basic question on here, but I have wondered something for quite some time.
Most passenger train sets I have seen all seem to have an orange stripe just below roof level which goes along the length of the train (and sometimes around the front). Sometimes this there is also a...
