Fare help Basingstoke [BSK] - Cambridge [CBG]

Hello all,
I want to travel on the morning of Saturday the 14th of May from Basingstoke to Cambridge and return the following day, Sunday the 15th of May.
The best price I can find is about £40 with YP Railcard.
Anyone able to find a good split option? I believe there may be the added complication of some engineering works in the Cambridge area.

A good start would be Woking. BSK - WOK, SDS @ £6.40; WOK - CBG, SVR @ £20.60; WOK - BSK, SDS @ £6.40; total, £33.40.

Can't help with fares ATM will look later, but journey planner is showing bus replacement from Royston to Cambridge on Saturday and Cambridge to Royston on Sunday.

Split at Hook will make it even cheaper, but restricts you to slow trains.

Seems the jump in SVR from the Hook fare to the Basingstoke fare is a bit steep.

These are Advance fares though and do not offer any flexibility in case the OP misses the first train. I would not consider Advance fares over flexible fares unless they offer a significant saving, especially considering the London mainline offers a regular service for the majority of the day.

That said, if the OP fancies some Vomitor/170 bashing ... (speaking of which I'm gonna be on those darned 170s this morning. )
