I see that Porterbrook are planning to build a loop test track at Long Marston:> https://www.porterbrook.co.uk/long-marston
I am also aware of plans to build a similar test track at Onllwyn (pronounced oncline) about 1000ft up in the hills north of Neath on an old open cast coal mine:>...
It appears that you can book a through ticket via the Eurostar website from TGV served stations in France only to London St.Pancras but not to other main station in Britain. I thought that something called a CIV ticket existed which meant you could travel between major cities in Britain and...
I see Spanish trains (CAF), Japanese trains (Hitachi) & Swiss trains (Stadler). So, what happened to the nation that invented the railways? How did we get to this situation where we don't design and build our own trains let alone sell them to other countries?
I recently took a train to Cheltenham. On exiting the station, I saw a Stagecoach bus across the road which said ‘Town Centre via Hatherley’ and boarded it. What a mistake that was! Rather than going towards the town centre, I was taken on a grand tour of estates in south Cheltenham to arrive...
At present, Ashchuch (for Tewkesbury) station has one service an hour - usually on the Bristol to Worcester route. Rarely, an additional train calls - likely to be on the Nottingham to Cardiff route. On Wednesday 16th July 2025, a new Designer Outlet Shopping Centre opened (see photo 1) and this...
I was at Rhoose (Cardiff Airport) station the other day and noticed a pine tree seedling had taken root between the tracks (photo 1). This would I guess have been relatively easy to yank out. A little further on and a small pine tree (photo 2) was growing - which would required a shovel to dig...
Saturday 12 July and GWR seem to think that it is adequate to run a 2 coach train on the Weymouth run on a very hot summer Saturday? Is this the best they can do?

I just put in for a return from Cardiff to Shrewsbury and the Railforums Ticket site is offering 1st Class on all the trains. Now I know that 1st Class is only available on the Class 67 Mk4 trains and not those services operated with 197’s. Looks like a mistake to me? See screenshot below:>
I have just checked the Freedom of Severn Solent Rover (3 days in 7). https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/tickets-railcards-offers/promotions/freedom-of-severn-solent-3-in-7-day-rover/ tells me that it is cheaper with a Railcard...
1B07 the 8.48 from Paddington to Pembroke Dock was cancelled between Swansea and Pembroke Dock (Sat 24 May 2025) due to “planned train being replaced by a slower one” according to RTT. However, this train from London was an IET and I see nothing going west to south Pembrokeshire as an...
I was wondering if GWR have priority boarding at Paddington for those travelling the furthest? Four example, on Saturday at 8.48 am the one and only through service of the week from London to Pembroke Dock departs and passengers for places west of Swansea need to be in the rear 5 cars. It so...
I see that a consultation is now taking place regarding having an integrated transport hub at Neath Railway Station. Sounds good to me as the present bus station is not by the railway station.
You can read more about this consultation (funded by the Welsh Government) here:>...
I see that where large trees are felled near tracks, that they are not injected with poison to kill them off. I notice that new grow is growing from the stumps that have been left behind following felling. Surely this is just making work for the future along with the problem of leaves causing...

I wonder where the steel originated and why it could not have been produced at Port Talbot before they closed the blast furnaces? I also wonder why it is not shipped straight into the dock at Port Talbot?
Presumably the hoped for extension from Coryton towards M4 J32 in order to serve the now being built new hospital has been taken into account regarding passing places on this branch?
A new transport interchange is proposed for the south side of Llanelli station. I hope they make the parking bays big enough to open the doors of modern cars!
Looks like only 2 bus bays are proposed - which I would think is likely to be inadequate. The main bus terminal is in the centre of the...
When trying to find out the fares and times of trains, I usually do not want to be tied down to Advance Specific Train tickets - I just want to know the price(s) of using particular trains. For example, if I want to get from a to b and back again, I would like to use the Off Peak and Super Off...

I think it will be very popular if the parking is free. If people have to pay to park and then pay to use the train, most will just keep driving for the entire journey. It will need promoting in...
I was wondering if there is much difference between driving a streamlined train - such as a Hitachi 800 series v driving at speed a train with a flat front end gangway door? Presumably the small cabs of the gangway fronted trains would not find favour? What about wind resistance - especially...
