Tube chat: The new badge encouraging commuters to talk to each other

I was in LA with my mate on the metro and someone started chatting to him. Him being a country lad was quite happy to chat and talk. Being a proper Londoner, I turned away and disappeared into the train. With all due respect to the topic, I would hate having one of those offered to me or if...

    Trivia - most visited station

Probably Kings Cross. I use St. Neots to begin most of my journeys, but I often swap to Cambridge for a plethora of reasons. So Kings Cross is the one shared point between them. Or maybe Purley, if I'm down at the Weatherspoons there

Travelling into London Bridge - Where to Ditch the Car

Met doesn't go from Stadium, it goes from Park. I'm not sure which station you're thinking off, as I don't recall Wembley Park having a good car park, though it does have a superior service. The service from stadium is fast enough, just not very frequent.

    Weird announcement at Three Bridges

I hear this quite regularly. I heard it on FCC too. In my experience it seems to occur when the train has been 'turned on' from sitting dead in a platform or when two 365's couple together.

17.39 Birmingham New Street To Derby

Whilst a Super Voyager is out the question, does that mean it can take a Voyager?

    Trivia: Most connected UK station

I reckon Birmingham New Street would have some legs, but I don't think it'll come that close.

17.39 Birmingham New Street To Derby

I believe the only restriction beyond Leicester towards Stansted is the actual platform at Stansted. XC use the shorter platform 2, which is entirely in the open. The Voyagers won't fit and would have to use platforms 1 or 3. But they can't because those platforms continue underneath the...

17.39 Birmingham New Street To Derby

I'd be staggered if it was haha, I know they can occasionally appear on the Stansted route as far as Leicester. Makes a nice change I'm sure!

Does professional sport affect decisions about closures?

Not necessarily, As Adrock said. Drayton Park is literally underneath The Emirates, but has never had match day traffic. It is tiny and has only a single island platform. All traffic is pushed to Arsenal/Finsbury Park stations.

    Grade Separation?

I remember the first trip I took down the SWML beyond my usual limit of Raynes Park. With grade separation at Raynes Park, New Malden, the two at Surbiton, Weybridge, the Alton line and Basingstoke. Seven between Wimbledon and Basingstoke isn't bad going.

Capacity on Southampton to Waterloo line

There's no way the WofE could handle 4tph each way between Salisbury and Yeovil is there?

    I think you'll find they're entirely Multiple Unit :P

    First class obsolete?

Eh, I hate it when people say First is 'for serious travellers' or 'business types only'. Most of my first class travel is done with some good advances when I can take the time to plan a trip, but I've done it before on a walk up. When am I not a serious traveller? If a rail company is offering...

    Class 317/1 with 3 lights.

Would you Adam and Eve it, I was. I was on the 20:22 to Peterborough. I saw that come in to clear the way for mine to leave. Dammit for sitting on the side of the train for Hornsey depot.

    Trivia - Proposal Heaven

I think you'd see a Pendolino in one platform at Euston, and a cobbled rake of Mk3's in the adjacent platform, both ready for Glasgow. And despite the offer of a £5 First Class all the bells and whistles service on the Pendo, a groaning bunch of enthusiasts throwing handfuls of £50 notes...

Oh no thats good to know haha! Wikipedia had just lumped them into one batch, as has the the two rail guides I have on my bookshelf.

    Class 375/377 interiors

Connex specced the first batches and they all came as 375. Beginning with 375/6's and /7's. They then began the 3 car variant. This was the first batch Southern received and they modified the couplers from Tightlock to Dellner. This subsequently became standard on all the rest of the new trains...

My idea for TfL to fine TOCs who operate diesel trains in the emissions zone

Yeah its just a stupid idea. Admittedly, TFL are electrifying their only diesel route as we speak. However, why punish passengers because half a route is not electrified. Some services do run wholly under wires, but none run just for the sake of it. Virgin WC don't have enough electric stock to...
