I prefer it with the LO style service. Makes it easier when you're in a rush. Honestly, I don't always know the time if I'm in a rush, if I look up and see 2 minutes. I'm less likely to rush. If I see 12:46, I may not have the time to find the time and work it out, so I'll just keep going to the...
No thats what I mean about being the same problem as Lowestoft. Having to use a DMU means Passengers waiting at Cambridge for the London train, and rather than having a 12 coach peak working roll out the depot, it would be a 3 car 170 roll off the Newmarket branch. Not big enough.
It always surprises me there isn't at least one token service operated through to Newmarket. It's the same as the Lowestoft argument I guess, as it would need 8/10/12 carriages from Cambridge onwards. Of course nowhere near as important as Manchester Airport or Glasgow Central. Mind you, I...
I have no issue with charging when they are kept in good condition. The charge is for more for that than to use them (in theory of course). Tough one, because free for all allows a lot of unsavoury things to possibly happen in them, but I agree it is a basic human right to go for a johnny cash...
I find the slows leave Cambridge very empty. Just a few local passengers for stations between Cambridge and Hitchin. All London passengers just go straight for the non-stops. They used to list the slow as only going to Finsbury Park to push passengers on to fast. I don't think they do this any more.
No, some get routed via Streatham Common. I was on one the other week that did. It has happened a couple of times. Wether or not that's planned or just because of delays or engineering works I don't know.
They also act as fast services from Potters Bar heading Southbound. As regular user from Cambridge and St. Neots I very rarely take the services that stop at Potters Bar, but on the occasion I have, they are well used.
I *think* all stations east of Benfleet, excluding the terminals at Shoebury and Southend Central for the purposes of this thread. Thorpe Bay has nothing booked to terminate, but it has trains enter service there.
Mine is TSGN, the GN section. Though Cambridge is close, St. Neots is my station. Pretty plain and simple and it's run well. Big shout out to Nev the ticket man.
My favourite story is about some American tourists who arrived in London and wanted to see the Tutenkamen exhibition at the British Museum. They asked for directions from a local and an hour later were found with a map on a certain common in South London which can be reached via the Northern Line
You got it one. In theory, one set of barriers at a station will work all day every day for the price of one installation and a tiny bit of maintenance. They don't need holiday or sick pay or maternity leave or they won't get a promotion and leave.
Theres two sides to the argument of course...
Oh nah it was a bit tongue in cheek :P I mostly used Thorpe Bay station, which never had any trouble at all. Was at Chafford Hundred once and watched as a young lad scaled the fence to get on a train.
