My Grandad was on the railway for 44 years, driving for the most of it and he never had a fatality. Very lucky I guess. I've seen plenty of dead animals on the tracks at work, not so nice seeing dogs and cats when you know they were someone's pet.

Obviously moving away is difficult at times but you'll make new friends and everyone is in the same position so it's not too bad. Not too much of a workload in the first year, it's mostly based on classroom learning and in the workshop. You don't learn a lot railway...
Anyone know what was causing delays of up to 50 minutes on the up and down at Loughborough? The only reason I've found is that it was due to a 'problem under investigation'.

In the interest of settling a disagreement, do train drivers have a driving licence, like a car driving licence, that they are able to get penalty points on for speeding etc?

Does anyone happen to know how an Earth Leakage Detector Works? I know it's function and that it is latched, just not how it actually works.

I'm trying to find out why signalling circuits are required to be earth free and how double cutting achieves this. I know that earth leakage can cause the false operation of equipment etc... just need some detail.

I was looking at the new 50th anniversary boxset earlier. It just says on the box that Skyfall will be released in 2013 and there is an empty space in the boxset so you can add it in later.
