Currently in New Zealand, and took the Coastal Pacific from Picton to Christchurch a few days ago.
KiwiRail make it abundantly clear that their three long distance services are luxury tourist experiences, and as such, I'd suggest comparing them with something like The Glacier Express (with...
Although there is an hourly RRB from Huddersfield to Brighouse, the X63 and 254 provide 6 services an hour from Huddersfield Bus Station (a short walk from the railway station) and may even take you closer to your final destination in Brighouse.
Of course on Platform 3 (formerly Platforms 4&8) the stairs and lift are now fully exposed to the elements following demolition of the canopy.
Perhaps the consequences weren't fully anticipated?
Now on RTT as 5Z01, intriguingly pathed as a Diesel Multiple Unit.
I've just visited Heighington station (1645 Thursday), and while I saw road closure warning signs, I didn't see any notices about watching from the station. There was, however, a stack of barriers at the bottom of the path to...
My experience of RRBs at Brighouse has been generally pretty good, but for a couple of issues:
1. A bus shelter has been specially constructed in the car park, but it is situated where RRBs normally drop off, on the opposite side to the queue of passengers waiting to go to Huddersfield. Why...
When the lines through Huddersfield reopen after this month's closure, the remaining platforms will have been renumbered, and there will likely be significant changes to the track layout and signalling as other platforms are temporarily closed.
Presumably the Sectional Appendix will have been...
Today I experienced for the very first time a RRB ticket inspection.
Huddersfield is closed through September for TRU works, and Replacement bis services run from the same stop to:
Brighouse
Barnsley
Stalybridge (direct)
Stalybridge (stoppers)
Dewsbury (stoppers, I presume)
The stop was...
We're off to NZ in November, and planning to enjoy all three Kiwi Rail passenger routes (as well as Interislander ferries);
Coastal Explorer Picton - Christchurch
TranzAlpine Christchurch - Greymouth
Northern Explorer Wellington - Auckland
Having perused the Kiwi Rail website and...
Currently on GWR 1A86 from Plymouth to Paddington, and an announcement has been made that an air conditioning issue with one carriage has been referred to Hitachi to be resolved remotely. I've long been aware of remote monitoring, but how often do train crew proactively initiate live action in...
There's a possibility that I may return from my next Interrail expedition with an unused day on my Pass.
Can I use this day on a future trip if I have used my Outbound and Inbound Days, or does the validity expire once the Inbound Day has been used?
Yeah but, no but....
In the old days of LNER, a First Class passenger had the options of light refreshments or a full restaurant car meal or just a coffee, paying accordingly.
Nowadays, with the exception of TFW and GWR Pullman Dining, a First Class passenger has the option only of the 'meal'...
Thanks. I hadn't yet booked it, so I'll be looking for an alternative stopover between Valencia and Madrid. Since you are familiar with Spain, do you by any chance know when Iryo will start accepting Interrail bookings? They were announced as starting in April.
I've planned an itinerary on an Interrail Global Pass, including a journey on 20th July, travelling on the slow but scenic direct service departing Valencia 0820, arriving Zaragoza 1400.
I understand reservations are required on all Renfe services, but am confused that Rail Europe tells me that...
Trains arrive at Lymington Pier at xx22 and xx52. Ferries depart at xx00.
Through tickets offer the xx22 train and a 38 minute wait. Is the 8 minute connection off the xx52 ever possible, or is it too tight?
On the return journey there's a 12 minute connection. Is that reliable?
I understand that Iryo services in Spain were due to join Interrail/Eurrail at the beginning of April.
I also understand that RENFE reservations can become available only at short notice.
My attempts to book Iryo reservations for July have been unsuccessful. Has their acceptance of Interrail...
I had issues booking Berlin- Krakow last year (and not just through the Interrail App). Full discussion here: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/berlin-krakow-booking.277138/
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
