I understand that Iryo services in Spain were due to join Interrail/Eurrail at the beginning of April.

I also understand that RENFE reservations can become available only at short notice.

My attempts to book Iryo reservations for July have been unsuccessful. Has their acceptance of Interrail Passes been delayed or are reservations available only at short notice?

Iryo Interrail acceptance didn't happen in April, it has been delayed with no official date but Jul 1 has been mentioned. I wouldn't rely on that however.

RENFE release bookings when they feel like it, this can be very short notice on occasion, the only way to know for sure is to check regular fares on their terrible website.

for Interrail reservations Rail Europe are now probably the best site but refer to seat 61 for all booking options. As always, avoid the Interrail booking portal unless it is the only option.

RENFE vary massively by route.

Madrid-Barcelona is bookable up to mid-December currently, fantastic. But Madrid-Extremadura never more than 3-4 weeks ahead nowadays.

If you happen to be travelling only on a competition route, e.g. Madrid-Barcelona or Valencia, and are booking ahead it often is not worth using an Interrail pass day. Ouigo for a quiet day a week or so ahead can be only Eur 25 or 40, further ahead only Eur 19. A month ahead Avlo and off-peak AVEs are similar.
